1. What defines a top tier maker to you?

That's a tough one. There are many things that define a top tier maker to me. Excellent fit & finish. A good eye for design. Artistic talent. The ability to turn all that talent into a successful business.

2. What is THE knife that got away? ..what One haunts your memories, and you can't forget?

None that I can think of.

3. What was your most unpopular view, stance taken on these forums? (or something that made you realize you had No'balls! ;)

My most unpopular view was when I started a thread about mid-tech knives and gave my opinion that makers that have a great deal of their work done by others, should admit to it and shouldn't call those knives customs. Quite a few makers didn't appreciate my view.

4. To what degree are you influenced by others, in this, trading/selling for profit, or buying what is "hot"?

Absolutely not at all.

5. What is your greatest source of inspiration in this Interest ? (hobby, or otherwise)

My inspiration comes from my enjoyment of being part of a community that is for the most part filled with good people.

6. What, if anything, would it take to fill your insatiable desire for "the next knife"? (is this a syndrome)

Couldn't be done. There is always going to be the nest knife.

7. What percentage of your yearly income do you feel "comfortable" spending on knives?
<Or>, What percentage do you actually spend? (optional)

This something I have never considered. I just find a way (legal) to get the money needed to purchase the next knife that I have coming.

8. Best knife-show story?
or something funny that happened.

I don't go to knife shows.

9. Best or worse advice that was given to you, in regards to.. ? Or, your parting advice given your last 24 hrs to live on this earth, one last will-and-testament for newbies.

Buy what you like, and learn as much as you can about knives and knifemaking.

10. What is THE craziest thing you've ever done to get a KNIFE you wanted? ..including lying, cheating, stealing, prison time, divorce and tax fraud. If applicable. ;) ..or just plain paying too much.

Nothing crazy

Muchas gracias!

2. What is THE knife that got away? ..what One haunts your memories, and you can't forget?

None. I can't own them all and don't have to own them to enjoy them. But I DID have a chance once on a san mai Fisk Arkansas Camp Knife on AzCK, but moved to slow. Doesn't exactly haunt me, but I wish I had been faster. I could say the same for a bout a half-dozen Fogg knives made available on his site.

3. What was your most unpopular view, stance taken on these forums? (or something that made you realize you had No'balls! ;)

Take your pick. Controversy has not been hard to find of late. Even askng "what's that blade made of" has proven to be incendiary.

4. To what degree are you influenced by others, in this, trading/selling for profit, or buying what is "hot"?

None - at least not the way you have framed the question. There are several individuals on these forums whose opinions I value and whose advice has led me to discover the work of some of my favourite makers. Several years ago Danbo told me that I should really check out the work of this guy names Russ Andrews. That's just one example.

5. What is your greatest source of inspiration in this Interest ? (hobby, or otherwise)

The people.

6. What, if anything, would it take to fill your insatiable desire for "the next knife"? (is this a syndrome)

By definition, and insatiable desire cannot be filled. I don't see myself reaching the point that I don't want to buy any more knives, regardless of what resides in my collection.

9. Best or worse advice that was given to you, in regards to.. ? Or, your parting advice given your last 24 hrs to live on this earth, one last will-and-testament for newbies.

I'll have to ponder that and get back to you.

Thanks,

Roger
