So, what's your recommendation for a $10 survival/outdoor item that's a must-have?

:D

For $10, you can get an emergency blanket, a bic lighter, a drinking container, and some fishing line/hooks....

Depends on what and where you are trying to survive I suppose. A cheap compass would be one suggestion.

Durables: SRM 710 - low profile enough to EDC. Surplus - Gore-Tex hat. Surplus - Gore-Tex fur lined mittens. Consumables: Water purification tabs that don't taste vile.

I'm buying something non-outdoor related on Amazon and my subtotal doesn't qualify me for free shipping. However, the shipping itself is close to $10 anyway. I might as well just pick something out I could use outdoors.

So far, I'm looking at an Opinel knife. Or a CRKT Eat'n'Tool. I know... not necessarily the must-haves for survival. ;)

In which case I'd have the Opinel. Good fun.

If you have a metal guyot bottle, one of these makes a perfect hanger unmodified.

Eagle Claw Fish Mouth Spreader

Most important things are water and warmth so I would say a couple bic lighters and water purification tablets
