Finally getting some knives out of the shop, here is one i finished up today. 10 x 2 blade, forged 1095, 15" overall. Handle is "Bocote"... i think (had it around so long i cant remember if anyone can tell by looking please say so).

Real fun knife to cut with, cuts like a much bigger blade.

Wicked. Love the psychedelic stripey wood, whatever it is called.

Definitely bocote (cordia elaeagnoides). A very tough, oily, but porous, wood. With age, the color will mellow out a bit to a rich, golden color with dark striping.

Very nice blade. It begs to be used hard.

thanks guys, and Phillip that reaffirms my thoughts on the wood. It was a nice deep reddish tan with black striping until i starting sanding it. Im guessing in time it will take a nice deep "russett" color. It was next to some pieces marked "Bocote" but the other pieces were a bit darker.

I bet it smelled nice and "piney" when you worked with it, too.

I've seen old chunks of it that darkened a lot over the years in the lumber yard, it's difficult to recognize sometimes (until you cut into it).

WOW...love that knife, the bacote is OUTRAGEOUS and the hamon is killer too!

Thanks for posting it.

thanks again fellas, and yes it did smell like a combination of fresh pine and maybe a hint of nutmeg:)

Hey Matt,
Great looking bowie.
Good to see another of your big cutters. That hamon's just wicked, too.

That sounds like a cup of fancy coffee on the porch after a rain in Dixie... now if you had some magnolia smell :D

Beautiful knife as always
