I am looking for a good folder between $100-$200. What first comes to mind is the ESEE H.E.S.T., Benchmade Adamas or a ZT. I am not locked in, but that is the style I would want.

I am no knife connoisseur, so what knives are in that price range, that style and with a 3-1/2” and 4” blade? I am open to blade type and other specs.

There is an absolutely huge number of quality knives between 1 and $200. What is the primary use going to be? What lock do you prefer?

I have no lock preference. I’ve never had any issue with any locks. I do prefer a lock of some sort.

This will be a defensive carry knife for nights and weekends, but not to work. I have few utility knives for work, around the yard and hunting.

I would love a Strider, but I just can’t see spending that much on a knife. I am hell on knives.

Dude, lots and lots of great folders for $100-$200. Personally, I'd look at Benchmade at a certain online retailer known for it's "call for pricing" prices. Very, very reasonable. Good "benchmade volli pre-order" and it should be the first website to come up. Look around at their BM models and have them email you a quote. It'll be worth your time, I promise.

I just picked up two BM BoneCollectors for right at one hundred. They also have the 300SN Ball Flipper for cheap, too.

I recommend a bm bedlam,zt200,bm 741 onslaught,spyderco police,spyderco military,

I've carried the zt200 and the bm onslaught for the longest I carried the bm onslaught for three years I loved it as my main blade.
Then the zt200 I've had for about 4 months its to heavy to carry with all my gear so I'm going to get a ffg endura to replace it.

But that's what I recommend but the training I've had for using a knife for defense is to use a reverse grip so I also say get what feels right for your style because I'm just like that

The Benchmade Adamas is the best hard use folder on the market right now, imo. The lock is obscenely strong (tested of upwards of 1500 pounds of torque) and the ergonomics are amazing. For $125, you get a knife that carriers about the same as a ZT, with equal or better steel (BM's D2 is amazing stuff), and with action much smoother than competitors.

The only knife that competes with the Adamas in terms of hard use and quality materials is the Spyderco Gayle Bradley; it's much smaller, better looking, and slightly better in an EDC role.

The Spyderco Gayle Bradley, is a classy looking folder that has a nice looking CF handle, and CPM-M4 blade steel. A pretty nice package for general use. I'm quite fond of my ZT200 for a harder use folder however, and find it to be a tank of a knife, the handle though while positive, is very harsh on the jeans. The recurve blade leaves me indifferent as well. Fit and finish is stellar, especially for a production knife, no gaps or blade play.

I was going to suggest Al Mar SERE 2000 or Emerson Journeyman for utility use. But you mentioned SD so I would say Spyderco Military. While I enjoy my utility blades, the Millie's ergonomics -- it fits like a glove.

I had a ZT 0350 that was a neat knife. The auto assist flew open with a 'Wham!' It could knock the knife out of your hand if you're not hanging on tight! I didn't keep it very long but it seemed really tough. But I like my PM better - I 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Indiana Joe, Cynic2701 and JDunn709.
