I need to get a knife for a buddy of mine who also collects knives. I have 100 to spend and was wondering what I should get him. He likes benchmade, spyderco, and a few others but has a few high end knives. I was wondering what knife I should get him that he would still appreciate. He doesn't have an izula but those are only like 40-50 and he had spent 100 dollars for a knife for me on my birthday.

What about a Spyderco Dragonfly in stainless steel? A little below $ 100,- list price, but a great gift! Your friend probably owns knives with FRN and G-10handles and larger blades.

But a smaller knife that looks particularly good with a stainless handle is probably a welcome addition to a collection.

If you can get a good deal, you might complement the Dragonfly with another knife.

Nothing wrong with the Military of course ...

Hi Over Kill -

My suggestion is to buy a Benchmade Mini-Griptilian, and have STR make a denim-blue anodized low-rider clip for the mini-grip.

You will be right at your $100 limit, and your friend will get a great one-hander that is non-threatening, the clip will make the knife dis-appear on jeans, and the Benchmade will quickly become his favorite "kick-around" knife.

I am sure you will get a lot of great suggestions here, but I am really enjoying my little knife as described above. I never carried it at all before I had STR make the clip.

i'd get him a style of knife that he might not have. but he might appreciate.

get him something different than what he usually use's. but you also know his taste so have some fun with it.

There are just so many in that range now it's hard to say. Wish I had a list of my collection that I'm liquidating, but I don't. Piranha full size BodyGuard just came to mind-it's not your perfect EDC, but a nice $100 collector's piece. Hopefully soon I'll be able to post photos and prices of my collection. I've gotten too old and I have way too many.

A 950 Rift is only a little more than 100 (just saw it for 120 on Amazon), and you'll TOTALLY one up him in gift buying. :D Plus, I guarantee he'll be stoked.

Otherwise, YES, he will quickly come to love the Izula VERY much.

I like the suggestion of getting him something that's a little different from what he usually buys/uses. Maybe a Mcusta? They're beautiful knives and can be had for right around $100.

The STR idea is a pretty good idea, because it is unique.

If has benchmade and spyderco, why not something different like a lone wolf or a kershaw?

I would look at the cpm 154 blur or the zdp 189 blur, just because they are unusual steels. I would also look at the cheyenne, dark raven, and long horn from lone wolf... another thought is tri-ad lock from cold steel.

The benchmade 710 can be hand for around 100. The new axis assist warn is a good buy right at $100

I was thinking of maybe getting him an izula and maybe another 50$ knife if there are any worthy 50$ knives out there maybe and assisted opener or something. How is the SOG twitch 2 or are there better options out there

The Kershaw Shallot is a neat knife in its stock form...

The SanMai BK-11 seems interesting as well.

You might also check whatever Cold Steel is clearing out this month, as those are sometimes interesting knives at pretty deep discounts.

The blue FRN with ZDP189 blade Stretch 2 is about $90.

The carbon fiber and ZDP189 Caly 3 is about $105.

The new large Benchmade Bone Collector is around $93. I really like the Rift but that is more than you want to spend and this is a nice alternative with D2 steel and contoured G10.

The Buck Vantage Pro and Kershaw RAM are both under $50 each. You could get the Izula and one of these.

While getting him something he doesn't normally buy sounds like a good idea, he may end up not using it much. I know the knives I have that are different than my normal 'style' just sit in a drawer and don't get used. Not because of sentimental reasons but because I just don't like it as much which is why I don't normally buy that style. I say get him something you know he will like and get a lot of use out of.
