So my current EDC knife is an OD Green Kershaw Leek in 14C28N. The thing has been serving me well - I love the fast and simple deployment, the thin blade and the fairly keen edge that it can take, as well as the fact that it's made in the USA and backed by (IMO) the best customer service around. Great value for the $30-35 that I paid for it.

However, the edge retention and steel hardness isn't exactly the greatest - it's more than enough for things I use it for in the city: cutting open packages, slicing into cardboard, dicing up/peeling fruit, etc. but I'd like something that could also handle the odd bit of whittling and just hold an edge better in general.

That all said, I'd like to step up to a bit of a beefier blade with a better steel like 154CM or VG-10 - I know a lot of people are going to suggest a Griptilian and that's definitely an option I'm considering, but I'd like to hear about good alternatives as well...

Any suggestions guys?

Benchmade barrage and Benchmade sequel are both under $100 and 154cm. I have the barrage and love it. Spyderco Enduras or Delicas are also good and are VG10

If you look around and find a good deal like I did, the Spyderco Gayle Bradley is one of the best out there for edge retention.

Spyderco Sage 1 or Paramilitary 2 are great suggestions, Spyderco's S30V is very well heat treated and holds a very nice edge. Those are basically $100 each.

For significantly under $100, I'd suggest the Spyderco Stretch 2-for about $70, it's 3.5" of full flat ground VG-10. Definitely one of my top EDC's.

Also the Caly 3.5 is worth considering. If you want sheer slicing performance, look not further. Also, if you can find a Caly 3 in ZDP-189 (they're hard to find right now, most places are on backorder), that will give you CRAZY edge retention. You can get an Endura or Delica in ZDP for about $70-80 as well. I assure you, the performance of ZDP will blow you away

Blur or 0350

blur is awesome, and holds an edge forever, and the 0350 can only be better. ZT always is.

Oh right - and I forgot to mention that I'm left handed, so a movable clip is a must! Also, tip-up carry is highly preferred...

And it seems like a lot of your guys' suggestions are $100 and upward - I'm saying that $100 is my maximum and not doing the whole "justifying $10 more" type of deal. With the Griptilian being $75, I'm trying to actually stay more in that range unless something offers a better bang for the buck while only being $80-90ish

Get a small Benchmade bone collector. Can be had for less than $100 shipped from Knifeworks, and has a tough as nails D2 blade. It's like the griptilian, but better.

Can't go wrong with a Spyderco Native.
S30V and USA made :)

Also...+1 on the Blur.

Hrmm - generally I'm not too big a fan of Spydercos just because of the off putting look... ergonomically they're great - but the design just bugs me. After seeing the Native though, I'll have to make an exception... for $60, it seems like a hell of a deal. Only thing I'm not liking is the lockback design - never have been a very big fan of it...

Lol. That was a joke. Under 100? The grips aint bad but I can't get mine to hold an edge very well. s30v vantage maybe?

What do you mean by can't get it to hold an edge? I thought 154CM was some pretty dang decent stuff - not as good as s30v, but not too far behind either...

One of the best knives for the money, in that price range (IMHO) is the Buck Vantage Pro.

S30V blade, G 10 handles, Buck Warr.

They've gone up a little, but for $65 still a great knife.

These have been my EDC rotation lately - Vantage Pro and Kershaw Cyclone
