I saw a very inexpensive bayonet for sale. 1907 Model British Enfield rifle bayonet. Stamped 1907 on blade.

Is anyone familiar with the steel on these old pre WWI bayonets?

I'd guess they could take a LOT of abuse.

High Carbon Steel?

I'd guess there is a military spec to be had somewhere. I just haven't found it.

Well stainless didn't come along until a bit later. Bayonnets were designed for impacts and stabbings, not cutting. So more likely a mid carbon steel. Say 1065?

They didn't use alloy steels in those days so a 1065 is a good guess.
