Introducing Zafirro Iridium

How do you inaugurate a new era of technology – not an incremental step forward, but a quantum leap: from vacuum tubes to transistors, CB radios to the iPhone? The introduction of the first razor with sapphire blades poses that challenge. The Zafirro Iridium is our answer.* Utilizing expertise in fields as varied as rocket engine manufacturing, nanotechnology, and particle physics, the Zafirro Iridium combines some of the rarest, strongest, and most technically advanced materials in existence.* The resulting combination of exotic materials pushes the boundaries of technology while creating an aesthetic that could be the centerpiece of a gallery collection.*

Ohhhhh Kayyyyyyy

But the problem is that I don't think a shave that is significantly smoother or in any other way better than what I get with a stainless steel blade is possible.

They guarantee 10-year blade life. That 3650 shaves for $100,000... over $27 per shave. I switched to DE because I got tired of spending over a dollar a day for Gillette cartridges.

It's a Portland, Oregon based company. I wonder if they have a showroom?

It's a good thing the handle is made from iridium with platinum screws. AND they'll service it for ten years. $100K is a steal, that just sweetens the deal. Do you think they'll cover the Paypal fees?

I think the biggest part of what you're paying for is the handle. Iridium and platinum? Really guys?

And the "pure sapphire blade" is almost certainly just alumina ceramic, which is a synthetic sapphire. So it's like a way more expensive ceramic vegetable peeler...only for your face and made of precious metals. :D

A little off topic, but I used to use "Gillette Sensor 3" disposable blades. I could use each one for a month, and it would still shave. I think I would really go through only 12 a year, and they came in a ~$8 pack of 8.

I buy my blades 100 at a time for $19 shipped. I can get 5-6 shaves per blade, but normally only go for 4. So I have 400 shaves for $19 that works out to less than 5 cents per shave. On the other hand when I was using a Gillette Fusion razor a pack of 5 cartridges cost me $16 and I could get 5 shaves max out of each cartridge, that works out to 64 cents per shave. Considering I shave daily that price difference adds up quickly, but I didn't start DE shaving to save money. I started DE shaving because the multi bladed things were tearing my face up and causing rashes on my neck. With the DE razor I don't have that problem, I get closer shaves, and I enjoy it more.

Yeah, I had to shake my head when I saw that. My Feather blades are expensive, but shaving is still a ton cheaper than when I was using the Fusion, or even the Schick Quattro. Using that iridium/platinum/"sapphire" thing is a major step backwards. I'd go back to Fusions if it weren't for the major razor burn they gave me.

Think of how many lives could be helped with the money that someone will spend on that razor

It might amaze you just how much money the people that could afford that razor give away to charities. While I was living in Winnipeg and trying to drum up support for a BMX race track, I dealt with a lot of well off people. at meetings I would hear them talking about how much they gave to such and such charity.

We got very little from them for the track because it wasn't a non profit charity and we couldn't give them tax recipients. The hoops I would have had to jump through to get the Not For Profit status was more than I could handle so I passed the project off to the Manitoba Cycling Association a few years ago and they are still trying to get the Not For Profit status for the track.
