Found 100lb Hay Budden Anvil for $250. Is it worth it?

I agree with the count, that step isn't original. Any other pictures that could help tell if it was welded on top (slightly better) or cut in (worse)?

Thanks guys. Got a couple of pieces of rail track for free. Just going use that for now and keep on looking. I truly appreciate the help.

Your profile doesn't give us a clue where you are, but the best source of anvils (apart from getting lucky at a farm sale or something) is blacksmith meetups.
Let me know where you are and I'll send you info on the nearest get-together. There are always good deals on anvils in the tailgate sales section of any ABANA or other 'smiths meeting.

Most likely any of these people would be happy to help you out:

I don't see an Iowa chapter of the Artist/Blacksmith Association, but you'll be able to track down the nearest one- I know the Ohio guys are a real powerhouse, and known for their tailgate sales at the meetings- so is the Missouri chapter.

I had a really bad experience trying to buy an anvil on Ebay, so I tend to run far far away from that scene.
Blacksmiths tend to know where at least a few are sitting unused (too bad you're not in Washington!) It's kind of like asking a programmer if he knows where there's some kind of computer for sale :)

Unfortunately I am a bit like a dog with a bone when I get an idea in my head. Couldn't wait. Have a bit of OCD when it comes to ideas. I lose a lot of sleep til I get to it. Anyway that said I had some money and decided to go ahead and buy that Queen Dudley I posted just above. Looks pretty good to me. Zoomed in on it and didn't see a lot of scritches or nicks from tools. A couple of dents and what appears to be a small crack on the edge towards the back but I think it's minor. I would love for you guys to tell me I made a good choice but I would prefer honest criticism. I know I am way too impulsive to learn anything.

By the way thanks for the awesome help so far and serious thanks to you elementfe and 12345678910 you guys were great helps.

$173 for that one, probably a good deal.

Once it's yours you will find out.

I find that's true for tools, cars, ladies and so on.
