Well...I've finally reached that 100th knife. This is a bit of a landmark for me, mainly as I once read that it takes a maker 100 knives to become proficient at it. I'm not sure if that's the case with me, but I try my best.

To give you an idea of how far I've come in the last 6 years, I've included some comparison pictures of it next to my first Loveless style dropped hunter which was made in 2005. This was my 11th knife (the first 10 being made between the age of 7 and 30!)

Anyway...here's it is....Blade is 3 3/4" 1095, overall length 8". Handle is ebony with dark red fibre liners on a tapered tang. Fittings are 303 stainless.

The first dropped hunter is owned by my Father and as you can see, is a user...;)

As always, thanks for taking time to look, I can assure you it's very much appreciated.

I'd also like to thank the makers on this forum who've helped me along the way...I always find name dropping a bit sad, but you know who you are.;):D

Cheers,

Ian

Congratulations on knife 100. It is a classic design and you have done it well. Great to see 1 and 100 together, I would be very proud of both.

What a great idea for a thread, too!

Subtle improvements in your knifemaking skill, eh? Wow!!!!

Nonetheless, I'm really impressed with the build quality and symmetry you managed on your first knife. You've obviously managed to refine what were already impressive natural ability, I'd guess. Thanks for sharing!

You have certainly grown as a knifemaker over the last 6 years, however the 2005 knife looks like it has held up very well under some severe use.
That must make you as proud as your progression to creating a more refined knife.

I've noticed a significant improvement since you have posted your work on the forum Ian. Number 100 looks excellent and number 11 has held up well.

More refined now, yes, but the #11 looks like a very worthy user. Higher up and further in, you go!

I like the look of that old knife more than the new one. New one's nice of course, but the other one is more interesting.

Thanks for your comments.:)

It was interesting for me to compare these two side by side. I can remember how pleased I was when I finished the older of the two. It was my first attempt at my favourite style of knife and at that point it was the best knife I'd ever made!

Hopefully I'll look back at the 100th one day and see more improvements...I've got a length of RWL-34 stainless sitting in my shop at the moment ready for a couple of future projects, so I'm still aiming higher.;)

Cheers,

Ian

I like them both. I must admit that I find that, what your 11th knife there, just great. That has a lot of character and looks well made. I would be proud to own either. Congrats!

Thank you very much.:D

To be honest, I'm quite stunned at how many people like the old one...

Rustic charm I guess....:confused::D

I know it's bad form to do links to other sites, but I'm actually giving this knife away and I know some of you are members, so if you fancy taking part in a little competition....http://www.britishblades.com/forums/showthread.php?124893-Win-my-100th-knife...

Thanks for taking time to look, as always, it is very much appreciated.

Cheers,

Ian
