I like this blade! I also have the 119 and the 105. These seem to be the knives Buck does best. Between the 3, the 102 is my new favorite.

Is this a brand-new phenolic, or what?

If it's an old one, we should have a pic.

:)

If it is the beautiful new 102BRSLE shown in the, just released, Legacy Collection 2011 brochure (420HC mirror polished blade, stacked leather with Micarta spacers and Aluminum guard/butt with a distressed brown leather sheath) then I have a question.

How do you keep the leather in the handle fit, capable and tight over the generations? Or, is a leather grip always a short-lived phenomenon...

Just feed it a little Mink Oil now and then.

;)

OK, okay, all right. Of course. Liquified rodent fat is the key to longevity for leather grips. Old school handle material needs old school treatment. Makes good sense. The same stuff I use on my ageing fielder's mitt.

Thank you kindly BG42EDGE. You are all right.

There is a shortage of rodents in this neck of the woods. Huh. I am not entirely sure why that would be... Might have to trundle my bundle down to the riverbank trading post for some imported goods.

A rodent??!!!!???

A mink is a Mustelid and no kin to a rodent.

:D

"Mustelid" he says to himself slowly. Hmmmmm. Ah hah. I see. Now I get it. We do have some of them around these parts. Yes we do.

They, unfortunately, run faster than I do and it looks to be a piece of work to get one to hold still for rendering into leather treatment. So far I only seem to be able to get them to cross my path. I am on it though thanks to BG42EDGE. Many thanks.

GREAT pics!!!

Thanks!

:)

You are welcome. It is my pleasure.

That varmint runs funny. The front coils and leaps out and then the rear catches up as the front leaps out again. I expected it to scamper or trot and not bound. Perhaps I had a hungry look on my face that day. Maybe it guessed, before I knew it, that I needed some of its oil. There were 6-7 in a group traveling from left to right, one-at-a-time across the vestigial road, and I was lucky to capture the straggler making his way (I don't have the patience to wait so I have to get lucky and see stuff happen as I stride along my way).
