From what I've read, they're all like that (mine is, too) so it's a flaw in the design. I'm having mine modified--flipper mod, new scales, etc--and one of the modifications I've requested is a new backspacer profile that closes the gap between the spacer and the point so there's less chance of getting a fingertip in there.

I've also heard that you have to watch out for the cutting edge if you run a finger along the back of the handle when the blade is closed, but mine was okay in that respect.

If my new one comes in and it's still the same...I will follow suit.

i believe the tip issue is just a design flaw as others have mentioned.

edit: careful with the flow through design as well... if you have meaty hands and fingers you could slice yourself just buy holding the knife in your hand or rubbing your thumb against the handle when cleaning it when closed.
