Howdy, everyone. I hope that I can impose on those with the secret Buck decoder ring to try to narrow down the date on these 105s.
The first came from my Dad; purchased new for an unsuccessful hunting trip in the early '70s. As far as I know, it has only been used in the kitchen by me for some light butchering.
The second is a recent acquisition. Apparently, I like the 105 since I bought another one... The second is definitely user-grade. It has not really been abused, but it shows that it has had a good and useful life since it left San Diego.
From what I've pieced together on this forum, I believe my Dad's blade to be from 1972. I think this jives with the window in which he said he got it. Other than that, I cannot tell for certain why I came up with that date. I have the original sheath if it would help. I'm curious, too, about the age range of the second blade. It appears to me to have hard fiber spacers (at least they are clearly different from the newer one, which has micarta). From what I can recall having read, this would date it to some time between 1967-1969. I do not have the original sheath.
Do these dates seem reasonable for what you see here? I have a few other photos, but I think these show what is needed to get a date range.
I appreciate your help. I am by no means a collector, but I realized not long ago that I own more Buck knives than any others (excluding Vic classics), so it would seem that there's something about the Bucks that keep drawing me in. And I'm a little excited about the prospect of having a beater 105 that I can use without worrying about messing up my old man's very nice blade.
Thanks!
