:(

this was posted yesterday i think.

general consensus was either photoshop or scale issues due to proximity of the animal and the boy.

i think there is a site the kids dad created with a bunch of other pics. they all seem to have the scale issues this one does.

the hogzilla photo was widely reported as well.

either way, that is still one damn big hog!!

This is what happens when someone is hyping a hoax. The kid's family calls the press and announces their story, combined with their crappy fake pics and website. Even if the weight of the pig is real, the story only tells me that the kid is a crappy shot and the family are trying desperately to get some time in the spotlight.

Did you write one of those awesome emails to him telling the young guy that you hope he "burns in hell" or "gets shot and chased" too? The pig was real, if you did any research before running your mouth incessantly in order to berate and insult the child and his family you might have known that. Who cares if his aim was bad? And in any case, you'd have to be an extraordinary shot to take a hog that size with one bullet from a pistol, any caliber. He's ELEVEN, he doesn't deserve anything other than a pat on the back, and if him and his family can make a few bucks off of it, let em. Grow up.

No, I wouldn't waste my time writing any sort of email to such people. If he is 11 years old, he should be using a rifle that he can handle aiming with. Poor sportsmanship to pepper the animal with bullets. The age of the kid is meaningless. He should not be hunting if he is unable to get a clean kill.

On the other hand, there is this guy: http://www.snopes.com/photos/animals/bighog.asp

Who killed a bigger hog, with one shot, and did not pose for hoax pictures in an attempt to impress ignorant people by exaggerating the size. He also did not call the AP.

Come to think of it, if they are so willing to create faked pictures, they could easily have made up the story, and any details including who did the shooting. If there is money at stake, where do such dishonest people draw the line?

i think this thread is going to go south very quickly.

Oh I don't think it needs to go south at all. All we need are some links that might lead one to believe that the pig was real. Even the reports you can find say "if the claims are real" so it seems that the reporters can't verify the story.

Based on the photo it looks fake. I have seen a ton of Brown Bear that run about 1,000 lbs and that pig makes them all look very small. Beef Cattle range from 950 to 1500. So if they had said it was 1,700 lbs at least the story would match the photo.

Anyway what did this have to do with Busse?

The kid is either posing 10+ feet behind the animal, or is crudely photoshopped in.

The only pictures are tiny and pixelated, which makes them far less than believable.

There is no size reference, with people actually posing near the animal. It has all the earmarks of a hoax.

This is standard practice when photographing a fish you've caught, hold it out in front of you so it looks bigger lol

I've seen a full-size version of this image and it doesn't look photoshopped. The "strung up" pic on their Web site is consistent with the size vs. the other pigs reported.

Look! An amazing anomaly of nature! Kill! Kill!

8 shots. 3 hours. By a 6th grader. Talk about suffering.

:jerkit:

Rat I agree with you, quote from website:

"Jamison, who killed his first deer at age 5, was hunting with father Mike Stone and two guides in east Alabama on May 3 when he bagged Monster Pig. He said he shot the huge animal eight times with a .50-caliber revolver and chased it for three hours through hilly woods before finishing it off with a point-blank shot."

That is not hunting, that is plain brutal torturing and un-necessary suffering... My personal stance is against hunting, but I am a lover of ALL animals, but I'm not gonna go there, each to their own, people enjoy different things and I respect that... but all the hunters I have seen or read posts about and seen pics, had CLEAN kills, rifles etc... I've seen the knife hunts... and I don't agree with them in terms of the animal getting scared out of its witts, but the kills are clean non the less...

Jeesh, if I'd told my dad at 11 that I'd hunted ANY animal over three hours, giving it a painful death like that... I'd have been bounced off every wall in the house...

That is plain cruel, and there was NO respect shown for the animal what so ever... his father should be ashamed... :thumbdn:

Rant over

PS - this does look like a classic 'smoke and mirrors' trick... if the father wanted a credible picture, unless he was a total idiot (although I suspect he was) he would have taken a picture that proves without doubt that the scale is correct... basically, if the pic looks dodgy, it probably is... I've been into digital photography for years... if this is the best picture they could show, then somethings up... if you really caught something that big, you'd have hundreds of snaps...

National Geographic - Is It Real ? - HOGZILLA - Similar occurrence. Questionable photos and claims of size and weight. Investigation showed animal was significantly smaller and lighter than claimed. Some folks will do most anything for their 15 minutes of 'fame'. Cases like this make it 15 minutes of shame. Pete

They were showing it on CNN this morning. The boy is going to get a part in the Hogzilla movie they're starting to make.

I say the HOG is prob around 800lbs. The boy being way behind to HOG makes it look to be about a TON.

The Hogzilla movie will make it look like we have these things running around killing people and stuff .... they do admit there trying to make a very campy movie though...might be kinda funny.

They say these giant hogs down in south GA and AL come from escaped hogs mating with a feral hog. They are very, very few and are not as crafty as the small feral hogs. They have no temper but do destroy gardens.

I don't think a 11 year old could handle a .50, but who knows?

BTW- taking 11 shots to kill something is disgusting, but the way they usually hunt them in south GA is with a dog. The pit bull will clamp down on the snount while the others tie the legs, then load it up and take it home to be cleaned... now thats disgusting...at least to me.
