107 Identification Help Please

My research on a 107 is inconclusive and would appreciate some advice.

I was gifted a Buck knife and sheath (NIB) in the 1970's. The sheath is stamped 107. The blade is engraved top line "Buck" and lower line "U.S.A" in Old English script. I've no packaging nor papers.

It's hardly used. Great shape. The knife fits perfectly in the sheath.

Someone has told me this knife/sheath is an impossible combination. Apparently the old English script on the left side of the blade is an indicator this Buck knife was made for the kitchen as part of a set. Thus, not a real 107.

I'm puzzled because I've always had the knife with the sheath. It's never been loaned to anyone. The person who gifted it to me (now passed) was not a practical joker.

I'd appreciate an authoritative source on the authenticity of this knife as a 107. It's bugging me.

Photos are available if that is helpful.

Thanks!

Photos would help. If you have trouble posting photos, send them to me in an email and I will post them here.

Hi Bert - hey thanks for offering to help. I do not see your email here. Mine is prizimnet@aol.com. If you write to me, I'll reply with photos. Ranzirp

Thanks Bert!

I hope these photos help! I've more if needed.

More questions:
Is the handle micarta?
Is the blade carbon or stainless?

Thanks!

Larry Oden's article about the 107 in the June, 2005 Newsletter discusses this situation. He had the same setup as in this post, and thought that either the incorrect blade was used by accident, or that there was a shortage of blades for the 107 and the kitchen knife blade was used for the 107. In either case, he considers these knives 107s.

I have that exact model in my collection. All normal for a 107. It came out in 1976, yours is likely that year or 1977. I have found more maroon micarta than the black. The black are more rare. Probably maroon was used more. I have both type stamped 107's. The 2 line script and the 3 line block lettering.
The steel is 440c. DM

great info on this model fellas. I got nothing to help, but enjoyed learning. appreciate the insights.

Like the other folks said, looks normal to me. Here's my only 107

I'm a new member and this was my first post.

Super impressed with you all.

Thank you!

Being "impressed" with all of us will eventually be replaced with being broke because of all of us. Everyone of these Bucknuts is a bad influence. You will end up buying knives you never thought you needed.:D

Welcome to the madness, Ranzirp. :)

Ranzirp, you're welcome.
In Topgun's photos, which are good. Notice, in the one showing the stamp. Take a close look at the sharpened bevel. Notice how wide the bevel is near the choil. That's a sure sign of a thick convex edge, prior to 1981 type edge bevel. A 440c blade for sure. DM
