This is the first Lycaon done as a double bevel. 3/16" 1080, black linen micarta, red g10 liners, mosaic and stainless hardware. It got an acid blackening for appearances and to limit corrosion. The mosaic's actually pop pretty nicely, but the lighting wasn't cooperative and since it was made on request I didn't sweat the pics. The sheath has a small tek-lok and a very nice click in feel, it easily passes a two foot drop test without being a pain to unsheath smoothly. Unless I was routinely jumping off high ledges or airplanes I wouldn't sweat wearing this one inverted even without additional retention.
You can't see it in the pics, but the exposed flats are actually unground. They're left in the original condition from the mill and this is hot rolled steel. There's still a very thin section along the spine along with the ricasso. I did blacken those areas, but didn't do anything to change the texture. I was worried I'd have to grind them smooth if I goofed a bit on the plunges but didn't slip and it all worked out.

That's fantastic. I was hoping you'd show the rest of that knife with the dark G10 liners from the other thread. :-)
What did you use to do the acid blackening?

Thanks for the compliments guys.
The blackening is done with a brass blackening solution, selenious and phosphoric acids. I wipe it on with a piece of paper towel, multiple swipes, let it sit a minute then rinse off, rub down with a scotchbrite pad, repeat... There's a little buffing done but if you buff you have to clean it again to get rid of the buffing compound or you get REALLY weird effects and patterns. I vary it a bit depending on what effect I want, sometimes I go for mostly unstreaked and mottled, other times I will get it partway there then start dabbing it on with a cotton ball...
