long time Kershaw owner, user and fan here. Just picked up 1082 Field Knife I plan to use for deer hunting and general camp chores. Can't stop handling it, and I'm impressed with the design and construction. Sweet little fixed blade I didn't have to break the bank to buy.

Anybody else like these? Pros & cons? Opinions?

Even got the "Loss Prevention" option, orange G-10 handles.

^^ umm, ok? Don't drink so many red bulls, dude.

Harlycarly, it is a pretty cool little knife. A good size, too. I find most people try to use too big of a knife all the time and the little 3+" blade is just perfect.

Here you go.

That is a great bladeshape for just about anything you can think of. One of the best wide utility knives around. I didn't know that it was also a folder, I'll look into that one.

I've been waiting for someone to pick up and review this model for quite some time it looks like a fool proof model to me though.

Beautiful little knife, especially in orange. You can get it as a folder, called the Pack Rat.

Yeah, the Pack Rat was on my radar as well. Just wanted a nice sized "working" fixed blade. Got a feeling that I'm gonna love this one so much I'll end up with a Pack Rat down the line. Only small gripe I have so far is one I'd heard before: the sheath leaves dark smudges on the orange G-10. Not a biggie for a working knife, really. Probably hit it up with some saddle soap, mink oil or leather conditioner. Seems like a sweetheart to me. Maybe I'll give a little review after I've had it through a hunting season.

Cool little blade and in 14c28n steel  not AUS-6or8 like most of their fixed blades. Looks like you could swap out the scales that blade would rock in some Ironwood or cocobolo.

I am torn between this fixed blade and the cold steel
pendleton 36lpss knife......one of those is my next purchase.

No, no, your not torn between the two, your just confused a bit! Get in the yoga position and start reciting kershaw...packrat.....got to have.....kershaw.....packrat.....got to have....and the confusion will go away.

I also have a CS Pendleton Mini Hunter, slightly smaller version. IMHO, you'd be much more pleased with the Made in USA (vs Taiwan), Sandvik steel (vs VG1). The Kershaw, IMHO is a much better knife.

FYI, I did end up getting a couple of Packrats too. Love that knife!!

Still looking for a Mini Skinner, 1081. Waiting for kershawguy to make these available.

does the kershaw fixed blade come with a sheath?

the coldsteel comes with a nice sheath.

i do see that the kershaw is about twenty bux less...

The Kershaw does come with a sheath. It is a basic, black leather unit. Nothing you could beat down a door with, but it serves the purpose. These sheaths need a little use, followed by some mink oil, IMHO.

And yes, the price is right on these.
