Probably asked a million times, where is the go to place on net for 1084 or 15n20? I can find 1095 anywhere and local but I want to heat treat myself and can't find fast oil as well, don't want to try water method. I am in southern California, is there is a local source to get in person? Also, does 15n20 only come in low thickness? Only places I found are in east coast and expensive to ship.

Thank you so much, they have both materials on a quick check. Is flatground ok to heat treat and work with for stock removal (thickness I need), will research it but looking for quick answer to order.

We carry 15n20 in .072 and .090 thick. But yeah alpha knife supply is where you need to go.

Surface finish does not matter if your heat treating at home with rudimentary tools. It’s all going to have to be ground off after anyways.

I have perused your site JT, most likely will use your services for my new hobby. I was dumbfounded there is a person in Colville WA with such a big following on here, I am from WA originally and lived in Spokane for a spell.

I just built a grinder, forge and quench tank, been studying a lot and have many questions but trying to keep a minimal profile. People get upset if you ask too many questions on this site and others.

We love questions here. Just do a little searching and see what comes up. If it does not fit your questions then make a post.

Do you have any 1084? Will buy, maybe the 15n20 for being so welcoming. Just looked again, you sell in heavy bulk and can't afford that. I have questions about your blanks, confused, can I pm you?

I joined a club, maybe that one but because of current health crisis everything is shut down. California Knifemakers Association is the name, actually paid membership and one post canceling everything because of this virus crap, very understandable must say. I can pay for local class or private lessons near San Bernardino (within 100 mies).

Pops knife supply also has both and they have some of the best prices on belts and other stuff if you want to combine a order. Their shipping gets totaled when you order by the computer but they only charge actual cost when they ship.

New Jersey Steel Baron should have what you're looking for as well.

DO NOT buy 1075-1084 from NJSB. We have had nothing but problems trying to heat treat customers blades made from it. I also believe thy had issues with their W2. I had someone contact me just last week telling me thy couldn’t get their W2 blade to harden.

I have not personally used their other steels so those should be fine as the issues seam to be isolated to the steels noted above.

Alpha knife supply is a great source of 1084.

80crv2 is another great option IMO.

Are you forging or stock removal?

Alpha Knife Supply is where I buy most of my steel. Fast shipping and my orders have always been accurate.

I'm new to this forum. But like has been mentioned, search first, then post. No worries, get your questions out there.
