Here's the Claro Fighter:

Forged 1084
416/copper guard
Claro Walnut Burl handle

Clay coated for hamon...of course there's a lot of action lost in the photo...it just looks like a line in the photo (trust me ;) ).

Oh man Nick, you've been busy! That hamon is awesome, I can see I'm going to have to start using clay or something to control my temperline; that's just too fine.

But the lines! Nick that thing looks like it's ready to bite hard. You have some very lucky and wise buyers coming up. Thanks for the lesson in humility! :D

Very nice, Nick. Very nice! Everything a knife should be. Elegant.

I like this one too. I cant see any gaps in the spacers or handle. That line is going to keep me awake at night. I need to try that. Thanks for sharing but no more please.

Thanks for all the kind words guys :)

The clay was satanite. I put a light wash over the whole blade, then a series of lines and criss-crosses in a littler thicker clay, and then a dense coating about 1/8" thick on the spine.

I quenched this one in 145 degree mineral oil, just to see what I could get.

In hand, the cutting edge is nearly mirror polished while the back is a light frosty grey. The line is a crisp white line (even though it looks black in the photo) and there are tons of cross-hatches in cloud-form surrounding the line.

I hand sanded this blade to a 2,000 grit finish. Then etched it about 10 times in vinegar. Each time I rubbed it down over and over again with Flitz on my thumb, and polishing paper on the hard edge.

Kinda' sad all that work isn't translated in a photo, but it's there in hand.

You better not be able to see any gaps Mr. Bump :p

The copper is a piece of water pipe I split and flattened.

Thanks Fellas :D

Outstanding knife! Man, that hamon almost gave me a woodie!:D SWEEET!

Nick,
While I'm here I wanna congratulate you on your showing in Knives 2003. I spotted some of your knives in there and they were all kickin'!
VERY nice work.

All the best,
Mike U.

:barf:
LOL
I may just need to stop trying now!

This and the damacus is just totally the Nick Wheeler we have grown to expect/respect. Keep pushing the envelope bud.

Nick,
Its just nice overall package. Its not the "lack of gaps" that impresses me, its the very smooth transition at the guard and the handle. For the benefit of a number of folks, it is not always an easy task of shaping this area and having it mate without possibly digging into the handle and having it look bad.

Not only is it a fine looking knife, it is just knock down, no holds barred, great craftsmanship! This stands out from the crowd.

Nick,
This is one sweet knife. I have been an admirer of your work for a while now. You have made many more intricate designs, but this knife seems to bring everything together. Nothing fancy in materials, but your craftmanship has brought life to this knife.

Just found out Pacific Steel has a depot here in Yakima.
