Pulled out a pretty decent hamon from some 1084 in this little santoku style chef knife I made this week. It started about an inch longer, but I had a warp in HT and I cracked it trying to shim it back during the temper. Overall, it is now straight and not too shabby...

Looks great. What was your process?

Thanks. I sanded up to 1000, then heated up some lemon juice and painted it on continuously , polishing off the oxides with my thumb and some baking soda slurry paste above the hamon line. Did this a few times, then cleaned it off with some 1500 grit on a wood block with a leather backer. Then did very short dips in the 1:4 ferric to darken below the hamon line up a bit, neutralize in baking soda water, then buffed with MAAS metal polish and a buff cloth. Did that a few times.
