This is the first piece I've ever made completely by stock removal. I don't plan on giving up forging, but circumstances dictated that this one get done on the grinder.

Steel: 1084

Length: 5.5 inches

Edge: Right handed chisel grind; flat ground down to about .05", heat treated to RcH 58-60, then convex ground to finish the edge

Finish: Progressive grit up to 800, buffed with black compound to blend the scratch pattern, three 30 second cycles in ferric chloride, another quick buff to expose the high grind lines and blend the etch a little. An unexpected little hamon popped out. I clay hardened it, but didn't expect the hamon, and didn't see it till after the etch.

Handle: Black leather over a tapered tang, a cold hammered twisted copper wire menuki on both sides, wrapped in cotton/poly tsuka maki and epoxied.

Thanks for looking! And please, tell me what you think!

I'm not normally a fan of chisel grinds but that's just slick. One of those knives that just looks "fun".

I'm not big on chisel grinds either :) but this is my first kiridashi and I wanted to do a traditional-ish edge. My next will likely have a double grind.

Thanks for the comment!

Good profile, looks like it could be quite handy in a pinch or something I'd be proud to showoff! Can we see a pic of the sheath?

No sheath yet. I'm leaning towards a kydex neck sheath, any input on that? If I don't keep this one myself it will end up in the "for sale" forum soon.
