Hey guys pretty simple question, what are the differences (traits rather) between the two as far as knife blades are concerned?

I will be using a firepit in my backyard for HT.

your second statement pretty much negates your original statement pointless. you have no way to HT 1095 to it's full potential, unless you are a master, so it is kind of pointless to have. just go for the 1084.

however, to answer your question, I am not sure on performance, but I am pretty sure that 1095 takes a better hamon. that may not be true all the time, but that is what I remember reading.

As Thegeek said, the second statement established that you should use 1084. Regardless of any any advantages that the extra carbon would give you, you do not have the ability to properly or even come close to properly heat treat 1095. Get some 1084.

To answer your question about the difference:
1095 has about .10% more carbon in it. The extra carbon will make the blade a little bit harder.
The 1084 from Aldo has extra manganese in it. This makes it easier to quench.

Thusly, 1084 is easier to HT than 1095 and makes an excellent blade.
Properly HTed ( which requires both experience and equipment) 1095 will make a very nice blade, but the performance will be only a little higher than 1084.
