I had to cease knife making do to a stroke years ago. I’m a rookie and can’t remember if a cleaver I profiled has been heat treated…
Is it ok to heat treat them twice????

Jeff, it seems like it would be better to test the hardness, even if using a rudimentary method.
I ran out to shop. File test demonstrates soft…. And it was barely beveled. I almost complete my grinds before hardening… but it had black looking decarb ,,,,, so does it do any harm to harden twice. Assume it’s also tempered??????

Does a fi!e skate on its edge?

I use Evenheat oven. Ok. I’ll just harden it. Thanks!! I’m just a bit weak. Hate to waste any energy…. Appreciate the feedback
Sorry to hear about your stroke. Happy to see your able to get around and do stuff still.

Hope your knife turns out good. Have a good rest of your day.

No skate….
File put a deeper cut into spine than I wanted…. So must not have hardened… sure can’t figure out the black Carbon in spots. Rust sure. But the black is confusing. Thanks !!

It’ll be fine.

I’m working hard on free hand hollow grinds,, think this straight meat clever gonna look crisp…. Sure don’t want to screw it up by hardening twice…. Appreciate everyone’s input.
