I have done a search on HT this steel and can't really find the answers I need. Hope someone who uses this steel can help.
HT info I have is 1475-1550 F and water quench.
Used 1500 and water got a cracked blade
Tried 1500 and Texaco HT oil and didn't get hard enough.

Maybe someone who has done some experimenting can help.
I am using a kiln.
Thanks

1095 needs a brine solution to harden fully. 10% salt added is about right. you can add salt to water until a potato will float. Preheat to 1200f and hold for a couple minutes then go to 1425f for a couple minutes to austinize and quickly quench in the brine. immediately temper at about 350-400 for an hour for 61 rc hardness.

I use alot of 1095 for smaller knives. I triple quench/temper my blades waiting 24 hrs between each quench and temper. Some folks don't beleive this helps the 10 series steels but, I disagree. I heat my blades to just above nonmagnetic and edge quench in Texaco Type A oil with the oil heated to 90-100 degrees. Before this I used Goddard's Goop with good results, also. I temper the blades at 350-375 degrees for 2 hrs. and them put them in the freezer for 24 hrs. I get about 58-59 Rc. Make sure to leave the edge a little thick to prevent warping.
