While I am fully aware of 1095's tendancy to rust, and I do keep my knives clean and oiled, I was wondering what your experiences with having a 1095 blade out canoeing for a few days has been like. Ive always brought my LMF II with me but have learned a lot here and own a few Beckers and ESEE's now:D Do I need to bring oil? If its wet in kydex all day will it rust?

what blade are you using? if its coated i wouldnt worry about it, if its not just wipe down your blade at the end of the day and you should be good

Im going on a two day canoe trip with my izzy on sunday and monday. ill do a few experiments and give you my findings. My izzy is coated, havent gotten around to striping it and forcing a patina, if there is corrosion it will be on the bevel.

I was hoping to bring my Ontario Rat 5 actually, Im thinking I might just take the Izula II and rely on my axe for anything heavy. Both are 1095 though and will be wet in the canoe most likely, well not soaked but on my hip in rapids.

i wouldnt worry about it, i have carried my esee 4 all day while it was raining, i took it out and dried it off and let it sit out overnight, the end result was no rust, although i did have it rust on a different occasion but it was only the edge due to the coating

Get some Tuff Cloth, it works. Otherwise, any rust from one trip will come right off, just use it to sharpen a tent stake, or strop the edge.
