hello. i wanted to make something japanese styled, inspired by the great kwaikens, swords and videos i see posted here. this has a 9 1/2" stock removal blade with a clay hamon, crowned spine and fuller. the hamon came a little closer to the edge near the tip than i planned, about a 1/4". but i think there is enough to be fully functional. the habaki is copper soldered together with a nickel strip at the bottom. it has the catscratch or rainfall pattern on it. the copper tailpiece also has the same pattern on it. the guard is nickel with coined edges. i tried to make two circular decorations by drilling holes, hammering bits of copper and brass into them and soldering it. the handle scales are freshwater slider turtle ( non endangered species) shell breastplates. i dont remember where i bought the shell, it has been sitting in my garage for years. the kurikata / belt frog is very sturdy. there is a nickel plate under the rayskin, it is soldered to it. see last photo. thanks for taking a look !
