I accidently found KaBar paper which came to me with KaBar 1217 (2001). There - CATRA test for 1095С, 12С27 and D2 probably for USMC F/U:
Initial cut: 19.4mm 22.5mm 19.5mm
Total cut: 146.3mm 168.8mm 300.6mm
Edge angle 40 (20 by 20) same blade confguration.
What does it mean?
It looks like Sandvic cuts better then D2 when it properly sharpen but the degradating to 1095 and D2 holds edge better.
But if you able and will to sharpen your knife frequently - Sandvic 12C27 is better choose.
Thanks, Vassili.

I'm not surprised to hear this. Sandvik 12C27 is steel thaat was specifically developed for cutlery use. I guess it it is somewhat similar to AUS 8, a steel that takes a great edge but which needs to sharpened fairly often. I guess a good upgrade would VG-10, since it also takes very keen edge but holds it much longer. Finally, from what I have heard, S30V is the current ultimate steel.

Speaking of S30V, what are the differences between S30V and S90V? (dont tell me one has 60 more "V"'s:) )You dont hear about S90V much. I have a little Scott Cook hunter in S90V.

Everybody say S90V the best known for today (+60V does the tric I bet) - but nobody makes it, but custom makers. If you know production knife with S90V - let me know right away!
However Sandvic is from special ore from Sweden - naturally have no S and P at all. And I know one case when it outperforms S60V -

Thanks, Vassili.
