This is the first big non kitchen knife I’ve done in a few years. I started this project back in 2013, iirc, inspired by a Jerry Fisk piece. Not comparing my work to his in any way of course. I lost interest in the project as I bought the steel to try to get a Hamon, when Aldo’s W2 was recalled. I got nothing. This one is made of 80crv2, has a hardened 1075 s-Guard, and a black dyed curly maple handle, with ivory g-10 spacer. I have a friend who is Scottish, and he fell in love with it, so I finished it up for him.
I just finished up the sheath, something I still need a lot of practise at. It’s functional, and looks ok across the room. I make mostly kitchen knives, so my sheath making is falling way behind.
The blade is heat treated to Rc60, and I took it to 0.020” before sharpening. The raised clip was taken to a zero edge, but not sharpened. The customer will decide how sharp he wants it.
