A salute to all the Veterans that have made this country safe.

Amen. God Bless all those who serve our nation, past and present.

Amen to Fitzo. No matter what our feelings on the politics in this country, they're out there doing their job!

I can remember a time very well, when the soldiers were blamed for an unpopular war. Most didn't want to be there in the first place and received a double whammy when they got home.

I hope we never relive that part of our history!

Don, how right you are. I hope VietNam taught us a lesson that you don't blame the soldiers for the war.

I dropped out of college to join the Army, only to find I couldn't pass the physical. That's immaterial. What mattered was why. It wasn't out of any patriotic fervor for a conflict I still think was unnecessary. It was because the asswipes were throwing bags of crap at the returning servicemen, using them as an outlet for their anger at the government. To this day not going with my brethren is my deepest regret. My appreciation for those who serve has never wavered. And that's despite living 5 miles from Great Lakes and watching for years wave after wave of drunken recruit chase everything that might possibly become that "port in the storm".

God Bless 'em.

Many good things came about because of the late 50's and and 60's. Changes that needed to be made, some of which we have recently lost.

The war and the way the servicemen were treated were not among them.

Bad war, bad conditions and bad memories. I feel for the soldiers in our present ballyhoo. The biggest thing they have to deal with is not knowing who wants to kill you or how they are going to do it. You never really get any rest.

The very least we can give them is respect and support at home.
