i started this project a long time ago, probably 18 months to 2 years ago. The customer changed their mind to a hatchet after I had it heat treated. It sat in my “to finish someday” drawer until this fall, when a friend’s uncle noted he needed a heavy duty machete for clearing back willow and poplar overgrowth on his farm. I mentioned the chopper, and he thought it would work, but didn’t want much drop in the handle. I straightened the tang, and finished it up.

1/4” 80crv2, Rc60/61. 0.012” before sharpening. Appleseed profile on the edge with microbevel.
Natural Wenge handle.
Cold blued mild steel guard. The domed pin was supposed to be mild steel, but is stainless. I now know where my stainless pin stock is.
10oz utilitarian leather sheath.

The knife weighs 1lbs, 5.6oz. Balance is 2.5” in front of the guard.

That’d work!!!! Nice!!!!

I was able to chop up 8-10” logs into kindling without any trouble. Hell of a lot of momentum with a snap cut.

Uncle Harold is taking it moose hunting figuring it’d work well splitting a pelvis and rib cage.
