Would you recommend the 11" fisk ovb bowie as a good outdoor survival option? Why or why not?

IMHO a big knife is not the ideal survival tool. That being said, this OVB should do just fine short of trying to hack apart large pieces of hard wood (use a Khuk or axe). It's an excellent cutter and slicer. If you're planning on harsh environs the carbon steel and wood might not be the ideal materials. For the harsher places, I'd look at the Fallkniven A2 for a large knife choice.

I agree with Loki, besides, Camillus calls it The Fisk Presentation Bowie. I would think first of A2, Battle Rat or CR one-piece knives choosing a survival knife.

Don't write it off just because it's pretty. :)

The Southwest Bowie is designed and built as a practical user. It is balanced for slicing and cutting more than chopping, but it can do everything you would expect of a blade that size and do it with ease.

I agree with Loki that a knife that size would not be my first choice as an only knife. However, the Southwest is what I carry as the big knife of a two or three knife combination.

anybody have a becker magnum camp around fs?

Well, knowing Jerry Fisk the way I do, I believe he would only put his name on something that would stand up to hard use.
