I've had this amazing YCS karda for a couple months now. I thought I would put it through its paces to see how it performs. It was sitting unused on my display shelf, it looked bored.

It came with the sharpest edge I have ever seen on a knife. It definitely a soft target only knife. The edge is razor thin which makes cutting super easy.

I was expecting a beefy knife when I first ordered it, but I was pleasantly surprised with how thin the blade and handle scales were.

It has a horn handle, the blade tapers evenly from the tang to the tip. This thing cuts like a lightsaber. Feel free to ask me any questions.

It is PERFECTLY balanced just like all HI blades. It balances right on the index finger, it feels weightless!

I believe that's about the thinnest karda I've ever laid eyes on. Good slicer and you look cool doing it.
Looking cool is pretty much job one ya know?

Now iffen you had a few perch, you'd have ya a nice perch supper.

My oh my, Ndog the quick thinker! Why don't I ever think up good questions like that?

OK, Ok, I know, I know. Fully functioning brain might be a huge benefit.

Hey...never know. I have about three knives that have names on them...Yours is on one of them:D You just cant have it yet;)

How thick is it at the spine? I'm curious if my special order SG Chef's Knife will come thinner or about the same. I requested 1/8" max

Very funny guys ;). I think this little gem will stay in my collection. It came with an unusual green sheath too. It is almost weightless in the hand not only due to its weight but also due to its one finger balance. It balances just like my $250+ Bark River Bravo .

I will measure it when I get home. I can tell you the spine is 1/8 or less at its thickest point. I have calipers at home so I will get you some exact numbers. The whole thing including handle scales is still less than 1/4inch.

It's a little thicker than I thought. It feels very slim and almost weightless in the hand.

Overall blade length 6.03
Handle length 5.68
Handle thickness at base .575
Handle thickness at top .543
Spine thickness at handle .174
Spine thickness at midpoint .150
Spine thickness before point taper .115

It is extremely sharp.

Sounds pretty ideal to me. I'm not gonna lie, I'm very envious. That knife jumped at me when I saw it, but alas, you were quicker than I! I will tell you that seeing that blade is what originally got me thinking about HI kitchen knives, and it is beautiful. Thanks for the info, great pix, and review.

Brother GB, that kitchenshiv does look nice and the less than 1/8" thick blade makes it even more attractive, particularly as a kitchen tool. Just remember, don't step out in front of a bus unless I'm in your will.

Do you guys typically use the two little knives that come with a Kukri? One is suppose to be a sharpener and second .....?

Anybody sharpen them and leave in the kitchen? Or are they two smallish.

Pappa

I have a couple that I leave out for use, mostly the chakma, the sharpener. The Karda, the little knife is just that for use on small jobs or anything they need a little knife for.

I feel kind of badly that most of mine just live in their sheaths, some are an art form in themselves.

The two kardas I have with my YCS just beg to be used but they are so pretty I'm hesitant. Carved handles and all. I suspect they'll go into careful service one of these days.
