Hello everyone, new guy here. I was looking at smaller beckers mainly to carry with me when I'm walking around my local lake for fishing. So quick poll, BK11 or BK14, pros, cons, any other useful info you can add. Thanks.

BK 11
Pro - Bottle opener; Its a Becker
Con - Smaller handle than a 14

BK 14
Pro - More handle to grab; Its a a Becker
Con - No bottle opener

BK 24 = BK 14 in D2 steel instead of 1095

I have all three and love all three. But the 11 gets the most use if ya know what I mean ;)

Hope this helps

All 3, BK-11 around your neck, 14 for weak side carry, 24 for strong side carry. Then all your bases are covered except for the 5 that you need on your hip so you can break down the wood for the fire to cook the fish that you caught and to break down the fish you caught into fillets. Of course then you'd also need a 16/17 to use after the fish has been cooked to actually eat it since your 5 would now be dirty.

Although,i'd imagine where there is fish there is water, therefor you can clean your 5...;)

Welcome! I got the BK14 because I like the longer handle, best if you can handle them both and see which one will fit your hand. If you really can't decide which to get, better get them both:D

Well, I got a BK14 first, BK24 after and yesterday I ordered a BK11. Long story short: eventually, curiosity will make you get them both.

I have a 14 and 24. The 24 stays in my boat all summer long, its primary use is cutting up bait and rope. With the added grivory scales,(you get two sets in the package) they are comfortable to use.

I opted for the 14 over the 11 because the handle is larger and has scale options and I carry a bottle opener on my key chain. The factory sheaths are the same.

Ahhh, the thought of using my beautiful five to break down wood makes me cringe!!! Best its time to get a 3 or 9 huh? :)

I prefer the 11, it feels to me like I can do more delicate stuff with it, but I love the 14 too.

You'll want scales either way and the scales for the 14 are cheaper, but the scales for the 11 are Micarta.

Honestly you're going to have all three eventually so why not go ahead and do it now?

Haha....... This again? Didn't we have this same thread earlier this week?

But really, this seems to be one of the most asked questions here. Comes up at least 3 to 4 times per month. Maybe we need a BK11 vs BK14 sticky!

My answer is always go with the 11 and get the micarta scales to go with it. I have more that a few of both the 11 and 14. I use all of them since they are both great designs but if I could only have one it would be the 11 for sure. Trust me, no matter what one you get now, you will soon have the want for the one you didn't get. That's how Beckers work.

Welcome to the Becker forums and may your Becker collection multiply quickly!!

By the way here is just a few of the threads on the subject already that may help you decide:

i don't have a 14 (or24), but i love my 11. yes, it has a bottle opener, but with proper (safe) technique you could use the spine of either knife as a bottle opener. buy both just in case.

The BK11 is perfection for a neck knife.
OK. You can close the thread now. Lol. :D

Got some nice information, thanks everyone. I was leaning towards the 14 because I like that ESEE style handle. I'm going to probably start with that one.

I absolutely love the paracord wrapped handles on my 14. Also, the zytel handles are supposed to be great and dirt cheap if you ever decide to upgrade the handles.

I have a 24 and love it but I got a bk 11 off the exchange and it showed up today and have to say that I love the feel of the knife in hand. The grip is more comfortable then my 24 even with micarta on the 24. I will be ordering micarta for the 11 as well. I do not expect edge retention to be the same but I have not had much issue with the 1095cv in the past and expect my new/used 11 to be much the same. I will be doing some more work on it as the previous owner stripped it so I will go ahead and strip the rest then buff to a shine and convex the edge and add the micarta handles or maybe a set from tommythewho.... Anyways either way you can't go wrong but even with only a few hours cutting paper and various stuff around the house I suggest the 11.
