What better than a camp knife? Most camp knives include a spear blade, a can opener, a screwdriver, and a punch. Some others might include some variation of this. Also, there are knives that offer a clip blade and a saw blade. Good choices also. Hope this helps you.

Give the kid a camp knife, boy scout knife, or a G.I. pocketknife. All the same, all made by Camillus, all available for a very reasonable price. www.eKnifeWorks.com

Ditto the above. My son has used the Camillus SS folder since he has been in Scouting.

I used a fixed blade/hatchet combo for years till the foam handle ware off the hatchet and I lost the knife camping. The knife was very similar to the Western small game. The two were in a combo belt sheath. I really do not remember if it was a Western brand or not, too long ago. I got them in the early 60’s, wish I still had ‘em. Lots of good memories of a boy learning to sharpen and use tools from his Dad.
