So I've been experimenting with sharpening my knive with my stones I use for my straight razors. I'm starting to get the hang of it I believe. I can get a hair whittling sharp edge completely freehand now. But I also want that beautiful mirror polished bevel I think I'm almost there. I use a king 1000, king 6000 and then a Chinese 12,000 natural stone. So here is my baby, s30v custom shop 110. And to compliment, a 2dot 112 with a factory rebladed from last year. Just had to share :)

the 12000 chinese is a very slow cutter do 100, 200 laps with as little presure as you can manage, ( very nice freehand edges by the way ) then strop on newspaper. its funny being able to sharpen knifes will not help you when it comes to straight razors in fact it will work against you, but mastering the honing of the razor will do wonders for putting a edge in a knife

I must agree with that. DM

I definitely agree with that as well. I never could get a decent edge in a knife freehand until recently. I have 7 straight razors and started messing around with them again about a month ago. I've got them all shave ready now and I decided I needed to learn freehand knife sharpening. All of my bucks are screaming sharp now

Terrific looking edges Bighaze51. My hat is off to you showing such skilled free-handed sharpening. Old skool.

yes i understand frist it was guns then razors and then hones the knifes ran all thru the other obsessions one day ill add up all the sharpened edges it will be many, many yards. and the hours spent hunched over the hones. my father had it worse thou, horses were his thing, thank god i dont have to try to slip in a horse without the little woman seeing it

Hahaha! Well I went ahead and did my vantage too. She is stupid sharp. That will be all for a few days. My wife is getting induced tomorrow. I'm going to be a dad!! We are having a boy. I started freaking out a little bit yesterday. Luckily freehand sharpening is a soothing activity for me so it calmed the nerves a little. Wish me luck!!

Great job on the blades and congratulations on having your son. Maybe I could get some pointers from you some time. Uh . . . on the sharpening that is!

Nice backdrop for the photos too.
