Several of us are having some discussion on the date that the finger groove variation of the Model 110 and 112 was introduced. Some say the Mid 80's, some say earlier. Maybe Joe or Vern Taylor or someone else can pin this one down. Thanks for sharing the knowledge!

I'll try to help but I don't think there is a specific date. In the late 1970's Buck was sending 110's to a fellow up in Idaho (I think it was Idaho) who was putting finger grooves in them and they were a special order item. They also sent his contact info to dealers when they inqured about finger grooves. I remember when Buck began to do it in house but I can't pin it down exactly. The 1986 catalog says they are NEW but I have a 1985 price list that they are on. I'll dig back through some old invoices and see when we made the first shipments.

Thanks Vern! We'll be eagerly awaiting the results of your research. Are these aftermarket alterations also covered by the life time warranty? Is there any way to tell if it is a factory authorized modification or a home workshop modification?

Hello,
I finally had time this afternoon to look at my literature and confirm that standard factory production finger grooved 110s and 112s were first manufactured in 1982. I have a copy of a Buck news release dated July 1, 1982 which announces these knives.
Now, I know that other finger grooved models were done before this time but they were concept knives, prototypes or employee free lance knives. Indeed, I own a 112 finger groove which came from a former Buck sales rep (not Vern Taylor) and he claims it was an early concept knife. The grooves are noticeably deeper than those of the standard production variety.

Thanks Larry. The more I research early 112's, the more I discover. So far we have identified 14 different versions of the pre'86 Model 112 and collected 9. You, Vern, and Joe may even know of more than that! MESSAGE TO 535sawby - You were right and I was wrong. :D

KNOWLEDGE IS LOST, THAT IS NOT SHARED.

Yup, 1982. I just read that in the Buck Collectors club newsletter. :D
I don't know if I can identify that many variations, pre 1986. If you let me know which ones you have, I will see if I can add any useful info.
