My 110 AG arrived(new) and I noticed the spine on the blade has no coating. Just wondering if this is normal on all models or just this one.

Hi D-86,

Buck has made and sold special order knives for a few customers like Bass Pro Shops and Cabelas. Your knife was made by Buck for Cabelas, this is one of my all time favorite 110's. There has also been some variance in the coating color. Most are jet black gloss, but, a few were a gun metal gray. Also a few different scales, like Sambar stag and Ironwood.

Oh boy those are beauties!

Could you check the spine on yours and see if theres coating, or is it bare metal?

Thank you my friend

I have 4 AG 110's and none of them has coating on the spine, just like your's

The coating on my AG is different, to my eyes, it is more like the bluing that you would find on a gun. Mine goes from black to gunmetal grey depending on the angle that the light hits it.

Do us all a big favor and post some photo's of your AG knife. We would love to see how it looks, and maybe you can do the angle effect in your photo's so we can see what you see.

The AG coating is not like a bluing you would find on a gun, not by a long shot. Read the info below from Cabelas.
"To ensure Alaskan Guide knives are capable of withstanding the most abusive environments, Black Widow Diamond Like Carbon (DLC) is applied. It’s a super-hard diamond and graphite coating that resists oxidation, corrosion and scratches, and is ultratough with a low coefficient of friction, while enhancing the blade hardness to prolong the blade’s service life."

Here is a link old thread on the subject of the coating.

I was just sharing correct information here on the Buck forum! As to your direct attack on me, well yes I do speak for the Buck group here as WE do like photo's and WE don't appreciate confrontational folks here. Sorry if my favor request of a few photo's upset you. In addition, the link you don't wish to read was an attempt to share some information that you and some of the other folks who are reading this post may not know and may learn from.

Aren't you full of yourself? Who gave you authority to speak for the community?

I don't do favors and I don't take requests and I will damn well read what I please.
I am very aware of the physical difference between DLC and gun bluing without your "help."
I was making a observation of the similar visual qualities of the two.

Thank you for the link!
There is great info in that thread, and links to other great threads within it too :)

Interesting discussion. Buck forum discussions are all so 'genteel' . Like watching an English show on PBS. Nice photos all.
