110 blade tip question

Yesterday I reached in my sheath to grab a new 110 and I scratched my finger on the blade tip while lifting out the knife. I noticed that the tip of the blade is just about even with the edge of the frame that the blade rests in, but high enough that it can snag your finger or thumb.

I checked through my other 110s and for all but one, the blade tip is snugly within the frame area and not a hazard. On that other one, another new knife, the blade tip was clearly outside the frame and could give a good cut to the finger if you were not very careful.

There is nothing I should do here to the knives, right? This would be a warranty issue? The first one is a Walmart holiday "founders edition". The second, with the blade tip clearly exposed, is an Alaskan Guide.

Thanks for any replies.

Wolf, I know exactly what your talking about. THe stop is seated too high and the blade
choil/anchor too large. Yes, a warranty issue. This can be easily corrected on a grinder w/ a light touch. If you had one, otherwise send it back to Buck. This is rare and usually caught in the line inspections. DM

Thanks David. I only have a cell phone camera and some film cameras, so good photos won't be forthcoming. But I can tell you know what I'm talking about. I'll send 'em in. :)

The "kick" on the blade needs ground down a bit and everything would be perfect. It takes about 1 minute with a dremel and a small sanding drum. Grind off a little at a time until the blade rests inside the liners. The "kick" is the part below the blade edge that stops the blade from resting on the backspring when the knife is closed. VERY EASY fix.:)

Ah. I think I know what you mean. The kick is the little "foot" on the edge side just below the hilt?

This picture comes in so handy sometimes:

You can see how the blade is held in position when closed. The only thing to watch is if you take too much material off the kick, the blade might sit too low and edge would hit the lock bar.

Thanks for the picture. I'm going to be sending these to Buck. I may be able to correct it myself, but that voids the warranty and Buck will be able to do the best job on it . The Walmart knife has a slight blade wobble too, so I think they should see how the knives left their factory. No complaints, I know they manufacture large volumes and things sometimes do get past the QC.
