110 Blade Wobble

Jeff - I just received two 110 Master Series knives. Very nice pieces, including the belt sheath and packaging, especially considering the modest price. In the closed position, one of the two knives exhibits blade looseness, it can move side to side about half the slot width, and hit the side of the bolster. In the open position, both knives lock up solidly. Is blade looseness normal in these knives in the closed position?

JKI,
The wobble is present on all 110/112 in the closed position. The bushing that is used around the pivit pin starts about .005 larger that the blade. This slight gap allows for smooth opening. The lock acts to make the blade rigid when open, but there is nothing to provide pressure when closed. Difference you see in the 2 is pressure variances during the pinning operation. The bushing collapses a little, but is always slightly larger than the blade.

Jeff,

This is the kind of information that is great to see! I often wondered if what you've now confirmed wasn't the reason for the unique blade behavior. Now we know

!!!

Thanks!

Thanks for the info, Jeff. These knives are really something special; a classic design, great aesthetics and construction, superb steel, and a bargain at the price.
One more question: why is the medallion on the "wrong" side?
