Just posting in hopes somebody from Buck will read the final response from my other thread

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?p=3529369#post3529369

Finally got around to taking it back to Wal-Mart this evening/morning. Gave receipt and knife/box to manager went back and got a new one off shelf, asked if I could check out the new one before we did the exchange. Pulled the new one out of the tin, and it had the exact same sloppiness as the first one did. Asked manager if I could try a different one, she said no problem. I went back and got another one out of the middle of the stack, brought it to the front, same problem again. I got a refund. Then, I went back to the knife counter and asked to see one of the plain non commemorative 110's in the regular box for the $29.99 price. Pulled it out of the box, it was solid as can be no play unlocked or locked. I then asked manager if I could switch one of the bad knives for the good regular one for the same price. She said no because they weren't the same sku. I said have a good day and left. Apparently the "commemorative" 110's that this particular wal-mart got in their last shipment were part of a bad batch or something. In case anybody from Buck is reading this, the offending "commemorative tin" 110 came from the Westminster, Colorado Wal-mart just north of 92nd Avenue on Sheridan blvd. Not happy about this at all. Has anybody gotten a good "commemorative tin" 110 in the denver area, and if so, which wal-mart?

The good fit and finish of the regular 110 proves to me that this isn't an instance of all 110's having the same problem, I may go back and get a "regular" one in a few days after I get over my mad about the commemorative set 110. Who knows.....maybe if I had tried one more tin, I would have gotten a knife without the flaws of the other three. I will be purchasing a Vanguard fixed blade in the next few days to try out and see what I think. From the loyal following and the quality of the "regular" 110, I am sure that there was just some kind of "glitch" in the batch of "commemorative Tin" 110's that the three I tried came from.

That's unfortunate & certainly not the norm with Buck. Can't blame ya for being upset. Maybe you're on to something regarding these Commemorative 110's & the great price. Hmmmm. Guess I'd better open a couple of mine.

I'm not from Buck, and I know you are waiting to hear from them, but thought I'd chime in anyway.
Wondering if I should open my Pandora's Box Wally World 110. It's still in the shrink wrap.

I dunno if JB4570 still has an open boxed one to check it?
Nonetheless, that is too bad that happended Bigcustom...never get a second chance to make a first impression. I know Buck would remedy it if ya sent it in...but ya really shouldn't have to with a NIB unit.

I do have a new 279 that is looser than I like...but I can live with it. My 277 FSP and LSP are solid.

Does make me appreciate my 110 knives though...while I only have a few they are solid. Even my three EDCs are still tight.

Hope you will go back and get the regular stock for a keeper...

Hi Guys, I'm at work tonight but will check the set of 4 tins I have for myself, one to keep as is and 3 to send for blade upgrade. I'll try to post a pic tomorow of the issue listed below.

See this comment I made in another thread on 12/30/05:

Went to the local walmart out here. They still had about 20 tins left. However, they are not marked down yet still 23.44 each. If they drop the price I'll pick up one or two more. I got two for xmas. One was in ruff form, two nicks in the top of the blade and there is a small gap in the top bolster (not riveted tight) resulting in a loose blade. Not a problem as this one will be going in for a blade upgrade!!!!

FWIW, I have one of the holiday tin 110's, and it locks up as tight as any of my other Buck 110/112's. Quality of finish is no better or worse either.

Ok I just did my visual check on my 4 wally tin Bucks. Only one had the issues as stated in my post above, two nicks on the top edge of the blade and what I would call a small gap between the bolster and the blade (possibly not riveted tight enough). I think this is why the blade is loose. My definition of loose is I can hold the handle and move the blade from side to side about 1/8 of an inch. I am not a trained Buck knife QC inspector so I don't know what is factory acceptable, so this is just my opinion and observations. I have about twelve 110 currently and none of the others has this much play in the blade.

As I also stated above it is of no concern to me because this will be going back to the shop for a blade upgrade when I get around to it. I also know that Buck puts out the best quality production products around. I think it's amazing that in this global economy that Buck can put out their products at such an affordable price.

See the attached pics, I hope you can see what I do.

GEE....I bought a total of 12 tins as gifts and kept four for me. All four I opened where fine. I have bought several full priced ones this year and they are all the same quailty. If you consider the price you paid, these are GREAT !!!! I have a collection of several hundred knives and I have always considered this model a true American bargin !!! EASY OFF....lol....Tom

Just some Random thoughts here on some of this.

It seems there could be some quality control issues at Buck. If you have one of the blades that is sloppy loose when open, and send it to Buck for repair, you might want to also try and provide them the barcode. Maybe it will help in figuring out where and if they have a problem.

In past posts, a slight bit of blade play with the blade CLOSED is normal as previously stated by the Buck guys that show up here. But should lock up tight when OPEN and locked.

Virtully every one of the 30 or so 110's and 112's I have, show some bit of blade play when closed. But lock up tight when open. And they range from 1967 to 2005. This includes the Alaskans and the recent customs.

This also goes for the 560's I just skimmed through.

As for a blade change on an Idaho stamped Tang. My take on that is, the Idaho will be unique and supposedly never used again. This will make it more collectable in the future.

When I send a 110 in for a blade change it will be one of the older users that isn't deemed collectable at this point. Or maybe even wait and grab up a 2006 stamped new one.

Just no way I would send in an Idaho stamped blade. But thats just me.....

But get those "loose when open blades" taken care of. Wally will make them right, or Buck will!

That makes more sense than telling Buck what Wal-Mart you bought it at.

Whether Buck cares, or can even track it to a certain day, worker, or process, is questionable... :(
