110 custom handle scale attachment?

I see a lot of customized 110's with various handle scales. Many of the pictures look like there are not any handle pins!

How are the scales attached?
 
I tapped a couple of holes in the brass liner to attach the scales. I used 2-56s. Scales are ebony, black with no streaks.
