Is "mother of pearl" strong and sturdy enough to be the handle material for a daily user?

Depends on how hard you use your users.
I don't mess with it, personally, for a couple reasons.
1. price
2. I drop my 110 in my back pocket, where it is sat-upon, oft-times jangled about with keys, etc.
3. My users get used for everything from spreading peanut butter, to bushcraft, to working on my truck & motorcycle. Some of these uses just aren't conducive to maintaining a pretty knife with a delicate handle material.

Mother of Pearl is calcite which is soft and brittle as minerals go. Unless you like throwing your money away I would follow the advise above.

Thanks! I will go with a more durable handle material. It definitely will get banged around a bit.

I didn't realize until just checking now that MOP is a $150.00 option.
WOW. Must look great.

I've seen it on smaller knives, and it really does look nice, I didn't know it was on the fragile side though.
