110 Hunter Sport Tip Problem

I just received a new 110 Hunter Sport on Monday and started carrying it this week. Today I noticed that the tip isn’t fully recessed into the handle and if I run my finger down the blade it will poke me.

Has anyone else had this problem? I checked my other 110s and 112s and all of them were smooth.

seen 110s over the years with this issue..send it in for warranty work.

you could sand down the kick to lower the blade into the handle, but I wouldn't bother. I'd send it in....

Try to clean out the inside of the frame between the bolsters where the blade pivots when opening and closing. Gunk from Buck buffing the knife before shipment, dirt, or pocket lint could be the cause of the blade not seating fully. Hopefully a good cleaning will solve your problem.

I don't know what Buck's turnaround time is now, but you could send it back for warranty work, or as mentioned above, sand the kick. That's most likely what they'll do at the factory. It's not a big job, but if you have any doubts at all about doing it yourself, just send it back.

I'd definitely try cleaning it out before sending it in for repair or filing anything. Use hot water and soap, toothpicks, tooth brushes, cotton swabs, and compressed air. I've found a large amount of black crud from the polishing process in EVERY newly purchased folding Buck knife I've obtained in the last 20 years. Considering the materials and finish on the bolsters and handle scales on your knife, it probably didn't require a lot of polishing (if any), so you may not end up getting much crud out of it. However, it doesn't hurt to try before taking more drastic measures.

It's easy.First make sure it's not gunk.If not then open blade and lay back down on table. It is advisable to blue tape bolster adjacent to the kick.I then take a coarse hone and carefully grind the kick down.Go slowly and check after a few strokes. It doesn't take much to get it where you want it.You don't want to take off too much.

Thanks guys they are forecasting rain all weekend so I’ll give it a good cleaning and go from there.

I dont think a cleaning is gonna make any difference.....but give it a go. harmless to try......

If cleaning it out doesn't help, please reach out to me and send it directly to me so I can take a look and have QC take a look. Worst case a couple of days and I will have a replacement headed your way.

Matt,

No luck on the cleaning, knife appeared to be good and clean from the factory. I can’t send you a PM but feel free to shoot me one with what I need to do next.

Thanks

Well it won't let me either.

I bought this along with the Onset.
I just poked myself with the blade tip on my 110 Hunter Sport as the blade tip sticks up just enough to stab you
when closed!

This combined with my Onset issue is pretty frustrating!

Buy 2 knives and get 2 problems!
Arghh!

😕
