Anyone know for sure what the model is? Joe H said either a 274 or 275 Echo.
The scale is marked "BUCK" with "SEKIDEN" by the end on the sword in Japanese style letters. Is this the version made in Japan before Buck brought it in house? I just got it so please excuse the lack of cleaning.

I'm pretty sure that they were never made in Japan. I just got one awhile back and it's an interesting pattern. Your's is a 2001 knife, the first year they were made. They were made again in 2002, then were gone from the catalog in 2003.

There were two sizes, the 274 which was right at 3 9/16" closed and the 275 which was listed as 4" closed. I have the 274 so I was able to measure it myself, but I'm going by the catalog on the larger one.

Did Buck EVER make any in Japan? I don't think so. Taiwan and China for sure but not Japan that I've ever seen.

It also seems that the little Koji Hara folder was first produced in the factory in Japan before production was moved to the USA. There are those marked Japan and others marked USA.

I really was off base about Japan production. Sorry.

I don't know if I have the 274 or 275 as mine is 3 3/4 inches long from apex to apex (< to>) on handle.

I'd say it's the 274 although after looking at a hard copy of the catalog, it says it's 3 3/8". The blade measurements should tell you. The closed length given in the catalog may be a typo. It's happened before.

I have (I believe) a Coleman labeled knife very similar in design, but with metal handles that I carry in the truck.

Have used it a number of times. Impressive little tools.

That serrated edge has helped me a few times.

I always thought of these as sleepers. Supposed to have a 2.5 (I thought) but it seems to be awol.
