Ok I saw only pics of this knife (guess where). Says it is a version 3 (don't know variation), 2 line inverted. Here's the part I don't know about. It has nickel/silver bolsters and there is 1 engraved in the back bolster. Original from Buck, did they do "customs" back then? Is it an anomaly or employee knife? Everything else looks like a version 3, pins, scales etc.

gsea,

It's probably pushing the boundaries discussing uncompleted sales. Your not naming the place name is pretty thinly veiled.

I need to get an eye examination, they looked like brass not nickel....LOL

I've viewed more than one auction where I would swear the Buck in the photos had nickel bolsters when it in fact had brass. Sometime the lighting can fade out the brass so you really have to look carefully. On the flop side I ran across a 112 that I just knew was nickel even though the photos weren't all that great and a nickel 112 isn't too common. Took a gamble and it ended up being a very nice little 112 with nickel bolsters. Often wonder how much more it might have sold for if the nickel bolsters were more obvious?

Badhammer, especially once the Patina has been removed through a re-conditioning & a spritz of FLITZ. It can definitely look like nickel in the different types lighting. You have a Keen eye an a good job picking up that 122 with nickel bolsters was it an Oldie?

It's a 1993 year model. Can't find a photo at the moment. The ones I usually see are the 25th anniversary model 112 which I believe were made in 1990. I guess mine could have been made up with left over frames from the anniversary model and a current year blade. Don't recall if I asked/posted about it when I got it or not and haven't really researched it.

Badhammer, thats sounds like a really nice knife, that would make it ~special~ for sure!

gsea, I recondition knives allot, I have had people ask if some of them are nickel especially after I use soem FLITZ an 5,000 grit paper on them....mirror finish an very light. Glad to help but my eyes are not 100% or guaranteed! LOL

Now that the auction is over, I'll make a comment. I'm sure those are brass bolsters and I'll bet that is not a 3rd Version 110. The rocker pin looks like it is stainless which would make the knife a 4th Version Variation 2 or a 5th Version Variation 1. It's hard to tell, but I think the knife has a separate spacer, not integral, and that the spacer is stainless, not brass. That makes the knife a 5th Version. Here is a manipulated, barely visible, view of the spacer. See what you think.

This just agains points out what has been said in the past on this forum. Most of the sellers on the auction sites have no idea what they have and look at privious auctions to find how to list their item to get the most return. Case in point, yesterday I bought a 121 2 line (I hope) that was listed as a Pathfinder, even though the sheath was marked 121.

A seller, reading to educate themselves on the products they sell... That's requires too much effort. When it's easier to just list it with any description, sell it and move on. The object is to get the money--- don't shoot for accuracy. DM
