I have no idea about Washington state laws - maybe a knife dealer in WA state could help you (is it illegal if carried openly in the pouch or is it illegal concealed in your pocket)? If it is illegal I suppose you could sell it on-line and buy a Buck 112 for your use. Sorry about your situation (if in fact you cannot use it). OH

Chris,
I live in NY and I don't have to tell you how recent laws have changed my life.
As for your question . I personally wouldn't carry it . Its not worth the trouble. It
all depends on the situation and the law officer that notices it or pulls you over in
your car and asks if you have any weapons. You posted your not a trouble maker -
but the officer dosen't know you. Avoid the potential hassel. Carry something else.
Just my 2 cents.

So you're saying that because your state has ridiculous knife laws that he should just give up and not carry even though he can? Don't propagate the stupidity you're subjected elsewhere.

@
Chris Wille - Your Buck 110 IS legal to carry in your state. The only restrictions I could find at the state level is a ban on autos. Seattle has stricter laws banning the carry of autos, any fixed blade and folding knives with a blade length over 3 inches. Your 110's blade is 3 3/4'' so don't carry it if you go to Seattle. :)

I live in Washington and have carried a belt knife or neck knife openly for 30 years and have never had a problem. The blades I normally carry are between 3 1/4" to 4 1/2" long. I use my knife everyday to open boxes, cut rope, cut flex duct, shave wood to get the fire place started, open feed bags, ...........it's a tool.

so what you are saying is you went to a local store and bought a knife that is not allowed in your state?? I would carry it but to be on the safe side I would make sure that it is in plain site as you walk around.

The knife is legal in his state.

No, he didn't say that and that's not what he did. His 110 is from Buck's custom shop with (I assume) his name on the blade. It could only have come as a special order from Buck through their custom shop.

The bottom line, Chris, is for you to find out for yourself what the knife laws are in Washington state and the localities you frequent, and then scrupulously comply with those laws. Everything else is just tapdancing, because no one in this thread will be there to hold your hand when Officer Hardbody wants to pat you down and bust your chops.

Recognize also that there is a good deal of subjectivity built into the legal system in those areas where the legislature has not acted. For example, there are about 3 different ways to measure blade length (cutting length, exposed length, and tip to tang), and if the legislature has not defined how to measure a knife - which they probably haven't - then the subjectivity of the police, prosecutor and judge comes into play. Thats why its often difficult or impossible to get a straight answer from a bunch of goofballs (like me) on the internet. Does my knife have a 3.5" blade? Depends on who you ask and what kind of mood they are in.

Were I to give counsel, it would be to develop an intimate knowledge of the laws affecting you, comply with those laws without exception, have the courage of a lion when exercising your rights within the law, err on the side of caution and compliance in the gray areas, and be as deferential as a Catholic school girl when engaging the police. If you are nicey nice to the police and they never bust your chops to begin with, then it doesn't really matter what blade you are carrying. Just my view of the world.

hey why dont you just call the DA office and ask them what the law says?? that is what I do when I am shipping a knife into another state and have questions about it.

Your DA's office actually speaks with "civilians"? Here in MA, forget it. They will not speak with you. They only speak to LEOs and the judge when they are prosecuting you. Like I have always said, you can only get legal advice from your own attorney. He or she is actually looking out for your welfare. It is worth the price of a C-note on a consultation with an attorney who has experience defending weapon-possession cases in criminal court.

I carry any size knife I feel like carrying, but usually the biggest is my 0301. I will wear my ZT0100 around town if im headed out to the sticks but I dont think Ill get in much trouble being in Enumclaw.

Which part of the state are you in? If you are in Seattle I wouldn't carry a fixed, might get shot by the PD. You in Orting or Concrete I think you will be fine.

I'm South of Seattle.I do know how Seattle is way strict on knives compared to most cities here .I have looked things up it seems there is no state law for length but County and city laws are all different some are 3 inches some are 3.5 some are 4inches.Just a pain in the ass to sit there and worry about i suppose.I do have a 112 as well that i bought before the 110 .I think i'll carry the 110 from time to time.I like it to much to just have it sitting out at home.

Several counties in the Puget Sound Area around Seattle and Tacoma have 3.5-inch blade length limits but most of the state is under "you can't carry a knife of any length as a dangerous weapon but there is no rule against carrying one as a tool." If you have a legitimate reason for needing a Buck 110 on your belt no one will bother you any place I've been. Just don't think you can carry it for self-defense.

I called up the state of Illinois to find out about there laws on switchblades. they had no problem in talking to me and emailed me the law by statue and what it said.
