My 110 came with a nylon sheath, but I wanted a leather sheath too. So I found one on eBay for $11.99 and free shipping. After waiting a whole 2 days for its arrival, the sheath came brand new, never snapped shut, and sealed in a zip lock bag.

Comments:

The sheath is ridiculously well made with heavy leather, tight stitching, and a brass snap. The black leather has a beautiful satin finish - which to me looks more expensive than shiny black leather. My favorite part of the sheath is the smell. It smells like a new saddle. For pete's sake, I wish someone would bottle that scent. :D

Anyway, I looked inside the sheath and to my surprise, the back of the snap had been covered with a round, adhesive Velcro patch. Was this done by Buck? I slid my finger in the sheath to see how much abuse my knife was going to take from any rough spots. Well, the leather was smooth enough, but the nylon stitching from the belt loop was terrible  , especially the knots where the stitching ended. So I heated up the end of a screwdriver on a stove burner and used it to melt the inside stitching flat - including those nasty knots. It worked great and now it's as smooth as the rest of the sheath. :)

After the sheath recovered from ISS (Interior Stitch Surgery), I put the knife in the sheath and the Velcro patch instantly peeled off. So I replaced it with a round piece of thin, black leather and leather cement. This improvement is more secure and allows more clearance than the Velcro patch.

In closing, I am very happy with my new $11.99 110 sheath. Buck continues to impress me with the high quality and value of their products.

Thanks Buck! :)

I agree TAH. The 110 is a great quality sheath (and knife) for the price. In my opinion the leather sheath adds a lot to the experience of carring a 110. My only complaint is the stitching sometimes will leave a mark or stain on the brass bolsters. I have a 110 where the bolster has a perminant mark from the lower belt loop stitching. Mine is an early 90's production and I think the thread is some sort of natural material (cotton or something?).

I'm sure I could buff the mark out but it's not a big deal really.

Messer,

I agree. The nylon sheath offers the addition of horizontal carry, but the leather sheath truly compliments the 110's classic style.

I have two objections to the leather sheaths that Buck issues. The first has to do with the carry. The older leather sheaths had a belt loop that allowed the sheath to ride lower on the belt and was much more comfortable. The newer ones ride too high in my opinion. The second issue has to do with the staining of the brass bolsters. As a result, I bought several custom made sheaths made specifically for the 110 that ride lower on the belt and are great. I therefore order all new custom 110's (and I tend to order a lot) with the nylon sheaths for storage purposes when I'm not carrying it. If I choose to carry a particular 110 I simply transfer it to one of the leather sheaths and away we go! I have one in black and another in brown so I'm always color coordinated! ;) :D

I was disappointed in the Cordura sheath that came with my new 110 (my daughter-in-law has my old one with the classic leather sheath). Nothing wrong with the Cordura (except that it was made in China); I just feel leather is more appropriate for the 110 and I like it better. I'm keeping my eye open for one.

Mike,

Where do you get your custom 110 sheaths? Can you post a pic? Also, when you say the Buck sheath stains the brass bolsters, do you mean tarnish? How long did it take? Were you storing your knife in the sheath?

The one thing about the current high ride sheath is that it will be comfortable while sitting and bouncing in my Jeep.

Ed,

Again, my new 110 leather sheath was $11.99 (free shipping) from eBay. I had it in two days! Just search eBay under "Buck 110 sheath". His user name was Richard something. Nice guy.

TAH,

Thanks, if I can't find one here in Texas (for the winter) I might look up eBay. Or have someone make a custom.

Ed,,,thought you snowbirds didn't show up down this way till after thanksgiving?? :D Are ya RV'ing? Where ya staying?

I have rounded up a couple of the nylon codura sheaths that are horizontal carry, which is easier for me when getting in and out of the truck, they don't drag on the seats.

Going to use those this season instead of the leather ones so if they get a bit grungy they just go into the washing machine with the jeans. Wife has washed a couple of really dirty ones and they have come out nice. One was so dirty couldn't tell it had red stitching for the Buck.

I have considered tossing this one really nasty leather sheath in the machine as well. She does let them just air dry.

I love the low cary leather sheaths from the old days, the new one ride too igh and fit too tight for my liking.

You should look inside the new leather sheaths and tell me where those are made :D

I prefer horizontal carry also, and the ease of clean up on the cordura sheaths...

Here's a photo of the sheath. It's made by J.B. Woods, who sells them on ebay.

wh4f,

Good point.... where are Buck's leather sheaths made? I have a nice chunk of latigo leather with me and some tools, so maybe I'll just make up one myself.

Pack Rat,

Canadian Thanksgiving is long over with... it's 20 F. and snowing in Calgary, and -25 with the wind chill in Whitehorse, Yukon. Here in El Campo, Texas, where we're looking after my mother-in-law over the winter, it's supposed to get into the 80s today... nice! This is my first experience as a snowbird... I'm trying to get a handle on this retirement thing. We'll be flapping our way north next spring, along with all the other Canadian geezers. Left the RV in Calgary... that's home for a while until we decide where we want to go and what we want to do (This life is a test... it is only a test. If this had been an actual life, we would have been given instructions on where to go and what to do...)

The latest sheath received with my latest 110 has a tag stating "Assembled in Mexico". Well made/assembled.

Here are two other sheaths made by Jack. Great work and a great guy.
These are 112 but give an idea of his stuff. Also have a 110 horizontal sheath from Jack.

Ed,
This has never been a problem for me. My whole life I've been fortunate to always have people around me that have always been willing to tell me where to go. :D

Goose,
Glad to see it found a good home in that sheath! ;)
Mike

Actually, it was just in that sheath for the photo opp.
It's back in the sheath it came with. I so much want to use it as an EDC, but it wouldn't seem right... It's a child of the 70's and needs to retire ;)

My newer leather ones are also made in mexico.
So which is the lesser of 2 evils? :D
I think I will still use the nylon...

Maybe I should put all my leather ones in trade forum for cordura :D
