My brother broker the tip off his 110 digging slugs out of a stump this weekend. Since digging slugs out of stumps isn't covered by warrantee I offered to dispose of the knife for him. :D

So I want to get the BG-42 upgrade for it. What's this upgrade cost? Do I just send it to the custom shop address on the buck web site with a note? Do I need to contact anyone first? Any thing else I can have done while it's there?

Thanks a lot!

I just e-mailed Joe Houser with the same questions late last night, I'm sure somebody here will beat me to it, but I'll post his reply if they don't.

I changed my 110 to BG-42, cost was $35.00 total (30 for the blade and 5 for return shipping). That's the best bargain in knives from my perspective.

Did you send the knife with a check? Send the knife and wait for a reply?

Thanks!

I did the same with a 112. I sent the knife with a check for $35, and back it came with a BG-42 blade. I highly recommend it!

First get in touch with Joe Houser at Buck, he'll tell you what to do.

I still haven't heard back from him on my e-mail yet, but I understand that they are moving right now, so no big.

Sorry for the delay, it is getting crazy with the move and all. I don't expect it to get any better for another 4 or more months. :(

But, as one of the previous posters pointed out, the cost is $35.00. Send knife and payment to me directly because this does not go through the normal channels. The knife will get the Efren Reyes treatment. He is my rework man, been here for over 30 years now and can get most knives looking like new.

COOL! Thanks....I have 2 560's, so I think one of them may need a booster shot!

I have a feeling that my old finger grooved 110 will finally be getting a new blade.... :)

Joe - thanks for the info. I'm hoping to get my knife in the mail today. What's the turn around like on this job?

thanks a lot!

Best mod I've ever made. I snapped the tip of my 110 off (my fault), and did exactly what you are thinking of doing. Just about the time I was wondering how things were going with my knife, it's in my mailbox. Probably a week or two, and it's never looked better. The gentleman who did the work was a Master at his craft.

One of the best cutting blades I've ever owned. At ANY price.

Greetings BUCK FANS. I have been on another forum trying to find out about another brand. I have finally made it to my favorite brand mainly because it is the first knife I ever bought. I have a 112 that I picked up new back in 1975 or 1976. The blade is not as full as it was new :D. It has seen alot of use and I never thought of trying to get a new blade for it. She opens and closes as crisp and clean as when I got her and the blade is still tight when open. No wobble or play. She is somewhat retired now. But I think a new blade would change that.
So my question is, what is a BG-42 blade? The back spring toward the rear bolster raises up a little and can that be reworked? And can I get the old original blade back?
I have copied Mr. Houser's address and I know what it will cost also for the new blade. I just hope I can get it there before Mr. Reyes retires. :) ;) .
I truly thank BUCK for making such a well made knife. They don't have a bad testimony either!!! ;)

ECS - BG-42 is one of the best stainless steels available for blades, and Buck does it right. It will hold an edge a lot longer than the current standard blade or your older one (from the year you bought it, it is a 440C blade). You may be able to get some of the small fit and finish issues fixed, Joe Houser could give you more information about that. One thing, though - they keep the old blade.

Thanks lambertiana. My old blade holds an edge well and if BG-42 is better, what can I say but "GREAT".
I am curious though, does buck keep the old blade so it can't be used for a counterfit? Even though it is wore I'm kind of partial to it. Been with me for a long time. :o :D
Sorry about the delay in responding back to you lambertiana. I'm off line with my pc for a while so I have to use someone elses.
Thanks again
Ed

I got mine back in the mail today, barely a week since I mailed it!

I sent in a 1991 stock brass and wood 110 that had the balde broken and reqround by someone in the past, it was sound but showed the age of 13 year old brass, and the wood scales were a little dull.

I got back a 110 with a new ATS-34 blade and they cleaned this thing up so well, that it looks like a brand new one!

BUCK ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
