Looking on the Internet, it seems that a standard 110 runs between $35 and $65, with about $45 being the normal. Is there a reason for the thirty-dollar difference, other than who carries them? From what I can tell, they're all 420HC and wood-handled.

I plan on using a 110 for everyday chores, and hunting when I can. Is the 4" blade too big for an EDC? Also, I've never used a knife for hunting that had any wood in it, for fear of getting the wood bloody and the possibility of it rotting / stinking / etc. Has this been a problem with anybody?

just buy from one of the reputable dealers and you'll be ok.theres no difference I'm aware of.

Some of the 110's have a cordura nylon sheath. Some come with the leather sheath. Other than that the knives should be the same. I prefer the cheaper clam pack with the cordura sheath myself.
As far as the knife getting dirty, clean it when your done and you will be good to go ;)
4" EDC!!! Sounds PERFECT to me!! :D
I hope you love it!

Wal Mart has the best price on them that I've seen. Also every year during the holidays one or two of the sporting goods chains will offer them for $19 after rebate. The only difference is cordura or leather sheath (my $19 110 from Gander Mountain last year came with a leather sheath!).

In my opinion the 110 is a little too big for EDC unless you carry it in the sheath. But that's more because of heft rather than blade length. I carry my similarly sized 889 in my pocket nearly every day.

As I'm sure you know, asking price and market value are two different things. If it is just a standard 110, I would expect to pay between $20 and $30 as indicated above. The newer obeche handled knives (1994 on) should not absorb blood because there is no open grain in the wood because it is epoxy filled.

I suspect more hunters are using the 110 than we know, they are all over the place, and for good reason. Excellent design and universal appeal for starters. The newer models have a super keen edge and slice with authority. And, they are inexpensive reminders than any nimrod can 'feast at the mouth of the horn of plenty' without cracking the bank.

Saunter down to your nearest WM and snag two or more to fill your EDC needs.

My wood handled '77 112 has seen more blood, sweat and beers then any other knife I own. Not one bit of rot or smell that I can detect.

This is where you'll run into a few potential problems.

Is 4" too big to EDC? If it's legal in your area, no a 4" blade isn't too big. I EDC a Benchmade 710 which is pretty close (maybe a bit longer) to the 110, but about half the weight.

Here's a size comparison:

Do you plan on belt carrying it as an EDC? If so, how do you want it positioned? It's a big knife and carrying vertical may not be terribly comfortable if you're sitting a lot. The cordura sheath allows horizontal carry though. But it's still a lot of weight.

The 110 is and probably always will be my favorite knife, but in this day of light weight, super strong materials, it's not the best option for EDC. But if weight isn't a factor, then by all means get and EDC four or five 110s (trust me, if you get one, you're going to get more), it won't let you down.

I EDC a 110 and/or a 560 with no problems, loose in my pants pocket... :)

...Just don't forget and dump your small change or keys in with it...they *will* scratch up the bolsters... :(

humm : i never thought of the epoxy filled info..
here is a factoid i was told today :

Its amazing that they can get that kind of quality when they are making 1200 110's everyday.. I'll help with the math.. that is 3 110's every minute, for 10 hours...
