Alright i am reaching out to the more knowledgeable forum members, especially with Bucks repair/spa/warranty service. I recently received a 110 with a corner of the wood scale broken out and a very worn/abused blade. I know I can send it into Buck for a reblade for $10 and possibly to fix the scale, but I have a couple questions.

a) Now that the drop point is available in the custom shop for no additional fee, can I get a $10 blade replacement with the drop point?

b) Will Buck replace the broken wood with a new scale or will they offer a replacement knife/ half off deal?

c) I have thought about replacing the wood with another scale myself. I am generally handy and have done a few knife mods before. I read a few tutorials on replacing knife scales and even one specifically on the 110 and think I could do this myself. My question is- If I replace the scales myself and clean up the rest of the knife should I send it in to get the blade replaced before or after I do my work on it?

I know pics would help but I am having some problems with my internet service and pics would be hard right now. The knife is a basic 1980's Buck 110 that is beat up, but still has a solid lockup and no blade play. The body is in decent shape but some how a chunk of wood has fallen? out.

Thanks in advance,
Bruce

Since no one has chimed in yet, I'll offer my opinion based on my experience.

Buck will only replace the blade with a blade of the original type; 420HC w/ standard profile (clip point). No matter how much you offer to pay them, they will not change the blade type or shape. I sent a 560 in that had original 425m and it was ultimately replaced with 420HC despite my begging and offers to pay up to get S30V. I assume, they're going to put a stock blade in it for you.

If you're going to do the scales yourself, I suggest getting the blade replaced first.

There is a very good chance (almost certainty) that if you send it in for a blade replace and spa treatment that they're going to replace the broken scale and you'll get a virtually new knife returned.

Someone with more experience on "know" will be along shortly.

You can always call their customer support and get a definitive answer right from the source.

Yeah I kind of knew I could call for best answer, but I wanted to see if anyone had personal experience.

Thanks MT_pokt, I was afraid someone would say that about the blade replacement. Decisions.....decisions.

Thanks
Bruce

Hi bralexander,

Welcome to the Buck forum! If I were you I'd send your knife to Buck and have them repalce the blade. If you want to replace the scales do that after you get your knife back. FYI your custom scale work will void the Buck warranty.

I had asked before, and they will only replace with original. They will make old beat up knife shine and like new. I have had 2 sent back for broke blades.
